if you have a trade policy they don't mind, I am sure the police will be up on insurance and provide the details and the insurance.

I know adrian flux don't mind aslong as you tell them.

This is great but do you know what springs to my mind. Isn't it a crying shame that our services have such a lack of resources that they may well have to rely on volunteers.
That said if RAYNET were called out I would probably be there too.

I did a massive amount of reserch on this last year with a view to trying to get it sorted via the emergency planning dept I worked in............

Almost certainly not. Police forces have 3rd party on their vehicles with massive public liability. They take the hit on the replacement cost of the vehicles involved. However budgets are tight hence the reasons youre seeing loads of older tattier cop cars around.

Fully comp to cover everyone all of the time including volunteers is prohibitively expensive and would consume too much of the police budget.

Not entirely true. It depends entirely upon the policy you hold. Flux are brokers. They supply policies from loads of different companies all of whom have different takes on this.

ALWAYS ensure your insurer knows exactly what youre up to and you have business cover. I checked with several insurers after a heated debate on here last year re transportation of prisoners. All companies said in the event of a problem in those circumstances they would almost certainly NOT have paid up.

Do not accept a memo of understanding, a response plan or a protocol as a replacement, they arent. Without sounding tight also establish where your guaranteed expenses are coming from. I am aware of one force who were not going to pay up until my opposite number in that area campaigned heavily.

These are all areas where individuals have either survived by luck or got caught out.

Remember good will wont pay your bills, repair your truck or look after your widow. Not being pessimistic, being realistic.

Seems like a stupid idea then if thats the case.

Most people have the most basic and cheapest insurance around so can't see many being able to do it, Atleast when you speak to adrian flux they know their stuff.

One force hasnt used 4x4 volunteers because of the points I made re insurance.

I have business use on my grand cherokee and the cost difference between that and no business use is .................... zero. They simply want to know what youre up to and asses the risk.

People often get caught out going for the cheapest insurance policy, including an ex collegue of mine who was driving without insurance to and from work because the very cheap sdp fully comp didnt cover commuting. She was devastated.

I would hope Flux do know what theyre talking about as they sell their services as a specialist 4x4 ins agent

complying all the above you posted before, it's a good idea but if they don't plan on insuring people I doubt many will do it as it will probably cost themselves too much or their insurance will just say no.

well i wont be doing it.

cant see why i should spend time away from
my family looking after other folks that can
look after themselves.

funny how i had foresight to get an all weather
vehicle and it cost less than many a sports car
or 2wd saloon that these guys that have 24/7
type jobs have spent.

as for the police or other emergency services well
whilst their budgets arent bottomless, they are
compared to mine and i'd say next time the force
is buying a 50 grand range rover, consider buying
2 25 grand pathfinders etc.

as said when our sole family vehicle is in workshop
they wont be footing bill and my family will be
without our all rounder.

plus when i'm at other side of the county boosting my ego then
what will the mrs and kids do for wheels.

now if i'm passing an ambulance stuck in adrift as
i did last december i'll see what i can do, or if
heading home from work will offer workmates a lift
but sorry firmly believe a volunteer is someone
who doesnt understand the question

travelling to essex today I saw 3 HA land cruisers and two discos talk about OTT

Sounds like it's more with transporting vulnerable people or nurses to vulnerable people.

If they asked in mid-wales I'd help, I have tried to join 4x4response but every time they have a yearly assessment I've been busy.

I don't mind helping aslong as i'm not too busy and my mileage is covered.

But usually I go and play in the snow. :lol
Great thing about snow it turns mild lanes into more of a challenge.

quite, and thats were it will hit the fan, as you'll want to obilge
your controller but they won't cover your losses.

Exactly, I mean WTF does a fecking Land Cruiser do on a motorway that a Transit won't......I swear half these eejyits only sign on so they can ponce about in posh motors, while the local cops are reduced to a bloody Corsa in some areas....pisses me off bigtime.
