Apologies if this has been asked before ( search won't work on my mobile and laptop is goosed ! )

Halfords professional socket sets are half price at the moment. Was wandering if anyone had used them and if they were any good ? They have a lifetime guarantee and seen as I'm going to start taking on some of the smaller jobs on my vehicle thought these could be a good purchase to get me started. Thanks Craig

Yeah, I have one and it's yet to cause me any problems for 3 years now.

Halfords Socket Sets

TBH I think they are pretty good value and there is a fair chance that Halfords will still be around in a lifetime to honour the warranty.

I have a full set of their Metric Spanners that I have owned for around 12 years but I have lost the receipt years ago so might have issues if one broke and they might get picky about the hammer marks on the handles!

I also have a set of 1/4" drive Metric & AF Teng socket set that is a good 20 years old and is still in good condition. My best and least used set is a 1/2" drive Britool socket set circa 1991. Might come in one day if I do a restoration on an old motor.

I've heard positive stories about their returns. No questions asked and kit replaced. As it has a lifetime warranty, I think it's a no brainer.

BUY THEM!!!

I bought a 1/2" Halfords lifetime warranty set about 30years ago, before the "professional" tag came in from my high street Halfords, yep, I'm that old. Last year the UJ came apart whilst doing the rear shocks on the truck, I took it in with (surprisingly) no receipt, told them it was an old lifetime warranty set and they replaced it without any fuss.

:thumbs

They are pretty much always half price

Good sets, shame I tend to loose sockets from laziness.

I have a set and cannot fault them!!!!!! Had the same set now for about 5 years and it's still going strong

Although I've not bought sets from them tools I've bought from Halfords have always given good service and I've never needed to use their warranty. I've got Draper 1/4" and 1/2" drive sets, the former bought in 1979 and the other when I graduated to cars from motor bikes. These have also given good service.

Cheers guys. I think I'll take a punt. Just wondering if they'll be further reduced in the January sales :D

I've had one for god knows how long now and can't fault it for what you pay.:thumb2

Only had 2 Sockets sets in my life, started in 1981 with an Imperial 1/2" Kamasa set, and then when I started driving Jap cars in 1990, I got a Halfords 1/2" dual Metric/imperial Set. Both still going strong.

Well I bit the bullet and treated myself to an early Christmas prezzie ! They had an extra 15% off the sale price so couldn't really say no :D Went for the 200 piece socket set....... just need to learn how to use it now :lol

NICE

Just one thing...... Don't go undoing really tight nuts or bolts with the ratchet spanners. They will fail.

Really? Never had any problems with mine and I've had them for a few years now. Saying that I don't use the ratchet section on really tight nuts as I'm a fan of doubling up if I can (got standard spanners for that!) or if I have space I'll stick the breaker bar on them :sly

Have you been spying on my tactics :naughty

I should've said not to use the ratchet end.

As for the breaker bar............ When I was an SE we used to use the ring end of another spanner on the open end for more leverage :D
