After getting my first Maverick a few weeks ago, am recognising common faults displayed by my 94 2.7 TD.
We had the clutch replaced and now we have a good, useable but COLD truck. with poor radio reception.
Well into the forum, managed to get to the radio - problem seems to be antenna so probably take easy route with window one.
Heater, about as good as a Beetle! Hardly any air comes out but loads of noise -and what does come out is barely warm.
Not helped as sliding contols seem seized and air just comes out at screen and side vents.
So onto forum- poor heater seems common. One lead is blocked pollen filter, but then does my 94 model have one? Another lead is to put carboard in front of radiator. Just warmed the cardboard! Only one left seems to be thermostat change to the 88deg one? Might end up trying it but had loads of cars before all putting the heat out- not convinced.
Got new wooly hat, scarf and gloves for Xmas so that might do!
Any new thoughts please!
Big positive - WHAT A GREAT PERFORMER IN SNOW!

try changing the pollen filter in heater box, under passenger side, look in down loads it explains how to remove it.

just realised your motor is a 94, dont have filter as far as i know

no it dont have a pollen filter, i am have the same problem with heating up.
hold fire until i put a 88 degree one in mine then i will post on here and let you know if there is an improvement

Pollen filters were used in vehicles with Air Con, AC unit gets condensation on it so all particles have to be removed from the air flow.

Is the blower motor def working?

There should be air flow with the motor running even though it may be cold?

Is it all vents that have poor or no air flow even changing the direction of air flow with the controls? remember the two centre vents only blow cold.

Do you have a recirculate control? when I recirculate the air rather than take air from outside I get reduced air flow?

What does the temp guage do? mine barely got to a quarter on a good day.

Is there enough coolant in the system?

After all that and years of being cold (had the car since 2002) I'd heard of people fitting the 88 degree stat I took the plunge. Guage now goes up half way and remains steady and hot air comes out of the heating system. I don't do any towing and have not run it on a really hot day yet but I don't expect any problems as others have used this temp before me.

Good Luck

Sliding controls might also be the problem, might be a little awkward to check as it could involve removing the centre console to check. Before that, though, the recirculate cable runs to a flap under the glovebox,it might be disconnected there as mine was and was only allowing cool air into the front. I would check there first as it is easier to have a look at and just involves removing a few screws around the glovebox. You should see the flap easily once the glovebox is removed and if you move the recirculate slider will be able to see if the flaps opens and closes ok. The cable sometimes slip off and could give the impression that the slider is seized if it is snagging on something. Well worth a check as it should only take about fifteen minutes.

Great ideas, chaps! Will give them a go. Gauge does move to about a third scale and blower works but little volume. wonder if heat control not working to max even though it slides straight accross?
Will be interested in how 88 deg makes a difference. Any more clues most welcome!
