a reply if i may

everyone is entitled to a view and a opinion and i totally respect that .

my choice is vehicle is slightly limited as it has to be big enough to accomodate a large electric wheelchair , a normal estate car type thing is too low for me to get in and out of easily , another factor is the level of the rear floor ..a boot lip is no good at all for rolling the chair in and out of , the mistral was ideal and within my budget .

the motobility cars i have been offered are fiesta/focus size vehicles , and without a substantial deposit those are all i can have .

with regards to the caravan ... i do not own the caravan , it is owned by members of mine and sheilas family .... we have to contribute ( as we should )

my radio re tune cost £10 plus postage ( £8.24 )

i did not ask for financial help .. i asked for physical help although i am extremely gratefull to bat 21 for helping me .

as for my ability and safety to drive ..... i would not even consider driving with my grandkids in the car if i didnt feel safe ..... although accidents can happen to anyone at anytime .

plus my 2 consultants have both said im ok to drive , as have swansea after recieving a medical report from them , my only restrictions are i am not allowed to drive a 7500 kg truck.

both me and sheila have offered rick, mags, swifty our gratitude by means of a personal gift.

at no point have i ever declined to contribute to the fund or associated expenses and i have made a contribution myself ,i am quite happy to pay for the engines return

i fully respect your opinion my friend .

kind regards

pete ( briggie )

Briggie, theres so many options out there! if you are on the higher rate allowances which your descriptions seem to put you in, you can have a fiat doblo on the road for just under £500.

Go for it :thumb2

got to agree with a lot daved has said to day, these motors can be a handful to work on at times for able bodied people, for motors of this age you have to budget for repairs n yes you have been very unlucky with yours but with older vehicles like ours this has to be factored in

oh n that post is from someone (me lol) that didnt budget for about £500 of repairs in the 3months ive owned my terrano lol

maybe the out come of all this is to get the car sold then for soemthing more suitable? perhaps a thread for suggeions??

Hi Briggie,
We have a Picasso, and that is bigger inside (taller/wider/deeper) than the Maverick/Terrano, it has a flat loading floor, does 50 mpg, 1.6Hdi, leaves most cars standing at the lights, 12500 miles between services and can tow 1300kg. ABS, stability programme, Aircon, traction control, good in the snow..
BUT not as good as my Maverick of course...

Our Picasso passed another MOT today with no problems. :clap You sit higher, have good visability and mother in law (disabled) has no problems getting in the back. Otherwise she would talk me to death at the front..:lol

Downside......... It is French.........(but still not Renault) parts freely available and cheap.
Trim is basic, but you can remove all 3 rear seats and have a flat load area big enough to sleep on .... ( I guess).
Rear suspension is a bit under rated, as it does drop with a load, but you can get a type of spring assistor.
Cheap to buy second hand as well..
Hope this helps,
Best regards, Rustic

thanks rustic , i looked at many options before deciding to purchase the mistral .... yes i could get a mobility car , but i chose not to , because its never yours and choice of vehicles is limited without a hefty deposit ... the mistral looked ideal .... i chose to maintain it with my mobility income, however .. due to the " unfortunate circumstances " initially with it..... i was prepared to sell it for a loss, when i had the mistral on the road it was perfect ... my chair is very large and heavy ( joystick controlled electric wheelchair ) ask clive or rick they have seen it ........ it fits in the back no problem , plus i can get the grandkids in too, many thanks for your comments

kind regards

pete

Fresh oil 2 or 3 times a year and don't off road it and you shouldn't have any problems.

Enjoy your car Briggie.

keeping out of rights and wrongs of this discussion but like to say if briggie is like majority of people who get a mobility award and relay on it for other bills it is hard to justify given it up for a mobility car that never belongs to you, i know this because i have 2 mates one is in a wheel chair and paid £2000 + his 3 years mobility allowance as he could afford it being young no kids no commitments and went straight from his accident to mobility vehicle so never had time to really enjoy the cash in his bank, the other mate married 3 kids and drives a cheap car low insurance and no car tax, i said the same mentioned here why don't you get a mobility vehicle and basically his answer was he needs it for bills and cannot survive if that was taken off him and this is what happens to alot of people and i can totally understand his point.
