They should be able to fit a new clutch for just over the cost of the clutch, since they have done all the work in getting the box out.
I'd go for a new clutch. You know then you are good for another 73k.
You have a good price for the gearbox re-furb, I thought something in the order of £1000 for a gearbox refurb, how long for them to do it?
Great that you are keeping the motor.
best regards, Rustic

I'm not to sure how long it'll take & when I can get it in  but going to see them next week as the place is about 15-20 miles awway so they can have a lissen to the box to make 100% I get queted the correct price  I was thinking it would be about 1K so if it's going to be cheeper i'm very pleased.
As for replacing the T2 we have been thinking long & hard about it & have had a look whats on the market  all of the T2's we have found have either been high milers, scrapped to death in carparks really tatty trim with splits/tears bits snapped off etc & quiet a few 52 plates had the same amount of rot that mines got 8O So we are going to get it sorted out & run the T2 for at least another 2 years to get our moneys worth out of this nice bill & pray she don't kick up wanting more new bits

Refurb vs recon - new clutch vs no clutch?

Hi again Sweety

If its any consolation I just replaced my '96 T2 box with a 12 month guaranteed recon. unit imported from U.K. to France for 725 pounds, added a new clutch unit for 120 pounds (its folly not to replace it while the box is out) and had the lot fitted locally for about 250 quid. That sounds like a lot but over here good LHD T2s are in short supply and cost a lot more than twice the average U.K. equivalent price, so it is worth it for me.

Regards CL

Bit of an up date  Went to see a garage today about getting the box repaired but have changed my mind on this garage as the price was jumping ie £550, 800, 1000+vat 8O  & the lad in there did'nt seem very keen to do it & seemed to be trying his hardest to put me off getting it done there
Anyway on the way home I noticed the box has gone quiet 8O 8O 8O which has got me puzzeled, I know I have'nt went very far in the T2 lately & have been taking it easy in 1st & 2nd. The only things i've done since getting the noise was to over fill the box by 1/2 litre of oil & give the prop shafts a really good greasing :? Could it have been a semi dry UJ thats been the prob & caused the vibration & a noisey bearing sound & it's just took some time for the grease to get into the moving parts :? :?

I'm praying it is m8, but going to give it a long run to get the box oil really hot to see if it stays quiet  I think i'm over due some good luck with this motor

So we might be seeing you this weekend after all??
And as paul asked,did you??

No never put any molyslip in, I do have some but it's for the rear diff & that will need doing before the winter  It's just got me how it's shut up :?

Think i've broke it again    I went out laning today & used 4H & 4L & all seamed fine untill we set off home when I noticed the noise & vibration was back again    Now I used the 4WD in the floods with no probs apart from trans wind up but the g/box has been nice & quiet untill today :? i'm going to regrease the props again & change the oil's as I had'nt got around to doing it last time.
Could it be the transfer box :? any ideas most welcome as i'm getting a bit sick now :(

It happens when in gear from 1st - 3rd TBH it's not as bad as last time but it's there  only seems to happen after being in 4WD for some time :?
