Well today i finally got round to changing my manual gearbox oil.cracked filler plug first, removed drain plug and the oil was like water got a face full as the heavy wind blew it everywhere except oil tray.cleaned up ready for refill, couldnt get anymore than 400 ml in by squeezin 1 ltr bottle.so off with gear stick. left filler plug out put 3.5 lts in thro gear stick hole.didnt run out of filler hole so stopped at that.then because i hadnt left in neutral i couldnt get gear stick back in place without lots of cussin undoing and firklin. so after 4hrs i decided front and rear diffs are for another weekend transferbox tomorrow mmmmmmmmaybe.never had this trouble with me disco well except for plastic filler plugs i melted to get out.

Know how you feel mate..... Have done all mine now..front/rear diffs transfer box and gearbox. Gearbox the worst to do, spent bloody hours under the car squeezing about a cupful at a time from a 1 litre bottle as you cannot get the height to fill properly.. ended up with several squeezy bottles just kept topping them up..the transfer box was a breeze to do as you can get the stuff in easily :clap..... next time I will feed a bit of hosepipe down through the engine bay into the filler hole, shove a small funnel in the top and measure out the correct volume, warm it up and pour it in!

I changed my gearbox oil a couple of weeks ago. I used a length of hosepipe from the filler hole, out through the NSF wheel arch, with a funnel on the end. I could then just stand by the front wheel and pour the oil into the funnel and let gravity do the rest. I just filled until oil started overflowing through the filler hole.
It took quite a while, but was a lot easier than trying to get the oil into the filler hole directly. :thumb2

Edit: just as mowerman suggested.

top tips, will be applying them when I change the other oils.

Can't change mine, the drain plug is proper stuck. Bloke that changed clutch poured some fresh in via gear stick but he couldn't get plug out either.

i got a garden sprayer looking thing that sucks oils out which would allow you to do whole thing through top gearbox and see how much oil youve taken out.
