Hi Again!!!
Fixed the gearbox rear mount no probs. Now I have a developing whine from the box itself, wasn't there 500 miles ago.
Symptoms:- bearing whine from the box in 1st,2nd,3rd & 5th. Both when accelerating and de-accelerating. More pronounced in first three gears and when oil is hot. No whine in 4th, slight rattle in neutral on tick-over.
From studying the gear component layout I suspect it might be counter gear shaft bearing(s). Any other suggestions from professionals or folks who have dealt with similar?
I intend to change the oil and add something to prolong the time before the inevitable box reconditioning. What oil should I use and what additive? Ive trawled the various posts/threads on this subject and am confused by 'data overload'.
From the workshop manual download I found API GL-4 spec. Anyone had problems with this or can suggest something better? Also I can't find Molyslip here in France but have found Wynn's products. Do they have a suitable additive in their range?
Many thanks in advance, CL
