I have learnt the hard way that a 2.7 will not run happily on thin synthetic oils, so personally I would advise anyone to stick to 10/40 but preferably 15/40 and good mineral oil better still :thumb2

can't comment on a 3.0 though!

Oh the joys of changing a 2.7 oil filter, I found it helps if your rather bendy:lol
Much easier on the 3.0 and you even get a tube to direct the oil down under the engine into the catch :thumb2tin

Just changed the oil on my 2.7 - despite my past experience of removing the full oil filter and hamfistingly dropping it  my drive now has decorative art which wasn't there before :doh

I have put 10W-40 fully sythetic in my 3.0 for the last 3 oil changes, I usualy use Agricastrol Powermax Plus (I think the name has now changed to Power Ultra) and have used this oil in several cars in the past all of which exceeded 250,000 miles without problems.
As the 3.0 has 9000 mile service intervals the synthetic oil should not have any problems with oil breakdown.
My 2005 manual does not list 5W-40 (only 10W-40) but as the viscosity is more stable with temperature than mineral oils I would be happy to use it in my engine.
