from shipley

Noticed diesel on the floor behind back wheel under tank defo coming from above tank drove to work 5 mile none since about 5 days ago could it be some sort of returned fuel un done fuel cap let air out not hunting, did have a 1998 T2 Were I changed both 6mm and 8mm over back axle for rubber but this looks diffferent

Brian nice to be back stll reconise some user names jimterrano banshee

could be fuel pipes over rear axel,if you get starting problems it will be sucking in air, they are known to corrode there.

Just had to have my fuel line replced from rear arch to front arch area.......fuel all over friends driveway, and outside Jim's house.......:doh :(

Used braided fuel line, so hopefully resolved.......

small drop of fuel after 7 days from last time

defo leaking from above tank going to check behind inspection panal in boot under carpet, did again when moved car off drive only ran engine for about 5min, dripping down tank from above weld line. fuel was very low only putting £10 a time just now.

If it is only doing it after its been run, I would be looking at the return line. May be its come off tank, or scuffed where it passes over the rear axle.

Is it 2.7 or 3.0?

I can tell you that from my experience it is normally the lines or as posted on this forum the seam of the tank.
This said my son changed lines on my 3 litre and unfortunately he damaged the fuel inlet outlet pipes on the fuel sender unit plate which is located under the inspection panel. For some reason the 2.7 has plastic pipes through the sender unit plate. The 3 litre has steel pipes that do rust amd be ome weak, this happened on ours and when we replaced the lines the pipe had become weak amd split. Solarman kindly replaced the damaged pipe.

Also certainly the 3 litre tank is pressurised when engine running and does remain pressuried for quite a while after so any leaks in mainly the return for some reason will still drip. Can’t remember if the 2.7 creates the same pressure or not.

thanks

Thanks for repleys

will look in morning its dripping from top running down tank done twice and thinking now its been parked on curb at an angle both times, its not leaked for a week and as not leaked on the flat strange.

Really easy to see where it’s coming from if you make a small hole

I’ve replaced it from the tank to just over the arches with fuel line where the original pipes were corroded

fuel leak very strange

opened panel in boot very dry around area were rubber 6mm 8mm pipe joins tank so going to buy two lenths pipe ready to change because must be something leaking after rubber, can see metal pipe going down but no diesel for two day seen on floor but something is leaking now and again, tank was empty so not filler area.

ps can you tell by just looking which is 6mm and 8mm pipe when under back arch

Brian

I have done this job before but about 2007 on a 1996 T2

job done I think

had a look today at diesel leak think it was just after rubber pipe near tank running on frame holding somewere, only noticed going on hill or slope then could see diesel on tarmac, no hunting,,so from tank over axel about 6 foot to good pipe. so think it was leaking and sat on a ledge or joint.

did buy rubber pipe weeks ago was a strange leak but its the steel pipe the replys were right.

Hi Brian, glad you’ve identified the leak. For what it’s worth I’ve replaced full length tank to engine bay on 3 of mine. Once had a garage repair a section on my first terrano and ended up with another leak.
