they warn u about water in the filter if u watch u have a orange light on the dash which looks like a small filter or tank that warns if water has built up in the filter u dont need it as i now run bosch filter head (to get rid of shity primer pump) and buy fram filters for about £7:thumbs

I use farmers filters too but round these parts their about 3 quid :thumbs

will a large in line filter with a primer be good enough ?
i would say no as they r designed for small petrol cars and dont think they filter down to the same size as the spin on filter:thumbs but the innline primer is fine

.

when you say spin down what do you mean ?

will the pump not drag a continuous amount through regardless of the size of the filter ?

I`m sure that means the particulate size it filters, the inline ones tend to be more open than the spin on type.

no i said spin on which is the type u have now and filter down to means it wont filter as fine as the spin on type, the pump will try a pull through as smaller filter but will be restricked so less fuel when the engine needs it i.e half to full throttle while pulling up a hill with turbo kicking in hope that helps

I think standard setup does to 5 micron, so pre at 10mic. post at 2 mic. but I doubt you will get the flow sufficient for the i/p because they are not more than a couple of inches in diameter. David.

The small in-line filters are better for petrol, ie lower viscosity, and where the filter is after the pump, as there is greater pressure.

You will need a much larger surface area if the fuel is "sucked" and has a higher viscosity, ie diesel.:thumb2

The wires at the botton of the fuel filter are, as said earlier for water detection, but the 2 at the top of the housing at least on my 2.7 Td, is for a heater for the fuel.
