Hi all. From the day I bought my truck I've known there's something wrong with the wipers. At rest they sit across the screen where you'd expect them to but when they are operated, either flick the lever up for 1 pass or on any of the other settings, the wipers go down before going across the screen. Bloody annoying and wrecks the blade. Any ideas folks? Cheers.
Ian.

Its not just a simple case of take the wiper arms off the spindle and change position on the splines is it?

Shouldn't be too difficult to solve.

Problem has probably been caused by someone removing the wiper arms off the spindles at some point.

Remove the wiper arms from the spindles and move them round one spline.

If you can't get the required position this way then the other way is to remove the main arm off the motor and move that round one spindle.

Not a difficult task, but may require a couple of tries.

I have nothing to add

They boys above have already nailed it :thumb2

I had the arms off
when sorting the damp carpet issue and operated the wipers before putting them back on. Still the same...

This doesn't work either...
When they're on they run off the bottom of the screen before going up but when they're turned off they return to the correct position?
I was wondering if a relay change would help.

Have you changed the position of the main rotor arm on the motor itself?

Check where they are mounted through that scuttle panel that the fixings haven't wore loose and caused the hole to become larger meaning that the actual mechanism is loose

Does that makes sense :nenau I know what I'm on about, I'm sure Rustic will re-phrase it if I'm talking jibberish

The plastic bushes on the wiper mechanism wear also causing a similar problem. Lived with mine like it for a couple of years now.

my memory is bad but I think the arm on the motor is on splines, for the blades to go down before coming up suggests this arm is incorrectly positioned, Rick

As you say, problem there since day one implies maybe the previous owner had a problem with let's say the switch, dismantled it, and maybe re-assembled it incorrectly.
Or it's just plain worn, as suggested by others.:thumb2

Wipers.... That's so gay... Are they chrome too :augie

What you want mate is one of these :naughty

Could the park contact be an issue if all else fails ?

Would this be part of the wiper motor and a replacement would sort the problem?

I'm thinking it could be a relay but can't locate them. The only clicking I can hear is from the wiper stalk itself. Is the relay part of this?

Just been out and looked at a wiper motor and yes I was right the short arm that fits on the motor is taper splines and yours has been put on incorrectly, you need to remove it set the wiper at the bottom of the screen and re fit it, I am sure this will sort your problem, Rick

The wipers on my old 96 Terrano did this for ages until I got really fed up of them and adjusted the mechanism at the motor end just like Rick says and they worked perfectly ever after.
