another thread just to confuse things more ,
when my front n/side wheel off the ground on stand or jack i can wobble it a bit top to bottom not left to right , so am i right in thinking the bearings are worn? in this wheel and if so can they be tightened up like in older cars to take up the play ,
last inspection down there it seemed you could not get at the hub nut has anyone ever done this without need for any special tools woould be greatfull as i just replaced tyres on front and wouldnt want them wearing premeaturely many cheers for reading this :thumbs

have you got the manual link? All covered in there.

If it's not doing it left to right then it may not be the bearings, could be top or bottom ball joints, have a pry with a crow bar but don't damage the seals.

Bearings, no special tools required.

cheers for the replies but the ball joints seem ok ,in the manual it says about the hub nut locking tool how do i get past using one of thenm?

The nut is circular, it has about 20 holes around the perimeter, and there is a pozidrive screw in one of the holes ( maybe 2, I forget).
Remove the screw(s) and using a couple of flattened off nails, insert them part way on opposite sides of the nut, don't go in too far as you need to rotate the outer ring only and rotate the nut with something between the nails.
To get to the nut you have to remove the circlip on the shaft.
Oh don't forget to put the screw(s) back.
Hope this helps.

Remove :
Centre cap (6 allen bolts)
Circlip
Shiny washer
Brass thing
Brake Ring
Undo two philips head screws (Very small don't lose them)
Remove the ring the screws were in.
Using a drift knock the "nut" round as far as you can without being daft. If you can still spin the wheel easily with one hand it's all good.
Put it all back together.

Or just read the manual for the posh version. If you do it with the wheel off you can inspect everything else and it's a better gauge of not doing the nut up too tight.

I think.

:thumbscheers for all the versions i think between all of thm i have abeter idea of what i have to do now next job as soon as i get the time now cheers :thumbs

Work in a clean dry area, and protect the bits from dust and grit, this is a good piece of precision engineering. :thumbs :thumbs

tool about £40 on e bay.... or.... as 11redrex says (dependant on fixed or auto hubs re the brake ring bit... fixed hubs on later trucks) I used a small hammer and screwdriver to 'untighten' the hub nut and a pair of long nosed pliers opened up to locate in 2 of the holes (opposite each other) and undo the nut (looks like a big washer).. if you do loose the little screws that hold on the locking plate I think they are M5 size (from any good diy store in packets).. know that as one of mine had NONE holding the locking ring on :eek::eek:

quick grease and rethighten and refit bits... job done

Do you mean the circlip on the end of the drive shaft, if so this Must be removed first.

Actually, thinking on, you must have removed the circlip at this point, to get the brake rings out !

The parts should pull out .. as advised !

DO NOT push the drive shaft inwards, as it will be a pig to get back in position.
