My car currently has a single factory pigtail on the front, but as I also have bullbars on the front, I had to mount the original one, mounted on the wrong side, upside down. This means it bends down slightly.

I want to fit a recovery point on each side, so I can use a bridle, but from what I see, none of the T2's ever came with 2 as standard, and as I already had a towbar on the back, the rear one was long gone before I even got the car.

So, the questions are, is the rear one the same as the front one, or is it actually a mirror image, meaning I could buy one and put it on the other side at the front? Somehow, I doubt this.

If not, does anyone know of another manufacturers recovery point I could use there instead, I rather like the look of the hook ones on the Trooper, but can not find the hole centers anywhere?

the r20 is the same chassi as the wd21.... the wd21 came with pigtail hooks for both sides.

... and as I already had a towbar on the back, the rear one was long gone before I even got the car...

There was never one on the back, as far as I am aware, the recovery points are the brackets each side that the tow bar mounts to.

Ahhh, could be and would make sense, I have never seen one on the back. My towbar instructions for the new one after the accident, did say to remove the recovery point, but they were very generic instructions, and reading through some very old posts on here some time ago, people did talk about taking the one from the back and putting it on the front, so I just made an assumption there.

I have found 1 picture of a WD21 in Australia with 2 on the front, but that is all. Don't see enough being broken up in the UK to see if they had 2 over here, or where to get one from.

I am very lucky with regards to front recovery because a short while back I was offered a second one from Barrbeast on this forum as he had bent one of his and purchased some aftermarket ones, so as soon as my slower than slow Nissan dealer soughts me out the bolts (due 13th) I will fit the second one

On the back the Patrols come with a large recovery point as standard to tow all the others ehind them.

Kind regards

Russell.

Just looked up the Patrol one, and it would not fit the T2, I can find them on Ebay:(

The only ones I can find are from aus.
I was going to get a couple made at work from 10 mm thick carbon steel.
I will see if he will do me a few pairs while the laser and fly press are set up.

That would be handy.. I know there is a lot of debate about the recovery bits and pieces, but regardless, 2 fixings with a bridal between them has to be better than just pulling on just the one.

I was thinking that just a nice length of plate metal, with two bolt holes for the mounting, and 1 at the end for a shackle would be fine, but I do not have the gear to work on metal at that sort of scale.

I was looking at maybe using those webbing straps on a triangular metal fixing, but I know from the ones that were on the old off-roader holding it to the trailer 24/7 when not in use, that the one time I would need them in ernest, the crud from having them permanently attached and driving around, will have rotted the stitching, and they would snap.

Yeah a bridal is much better if possible as it puts equal force on each chassis leg and can avoid twisting the chassis on a hard pull.
This is some thing like what I am getting made.

If we have got some 10mm angle iron that will make them even easier to fabricate.
As for a bridal I have got 2 short 7 ton recovery straps that I can use with a shackle to make my own.:thumb2

They look good...

Yes I too have a 5 meter and a 20 meter 5 tonne strap I carry, along with a 5tonne 3meter rope, so between them can make up something useful for most things.

This came about as I was called out the launch the search and rescue boat for a low tide launch, and one of the slipways is very muddy and turns to wood at the bottom. I was going to use the 20meter strop between the car and trailer to lower the trailer into the water, rather than risk driving onto the wood, but as it was, they dragged the boat up the slippery wood to the bottom of the concrete, so I was able to reverse down to the boat without leaving the safety of the hard stuff.

If I had 2 front recovery eyes, I was thinking that 2x20meter strops, one from each recovery eye to each side of the trailer, would make it run true.

As long as it's a straight pull 2 strops would work.
Always good to carry a few different lengths so as you say you can make something up for the task in hand. :thumb2
Also good practice to assess what you intend to recover and formulate a safe plan before you even break out the recovery gear.
Seen some very dodgy recovery techniques over the years :lol

Your spot on Rustic:thumbs I've been on the look out for a second pig tail & bolts for the front of mine but as far as I know when fitting one on the N/S the end of the pig tail may have to be chopped off to get it to fit:augie Mine came with none on the front as Nissan penny pinched with them on the later models but was lucky to find one in a breakers yard & it cost me a fiver:D Every other T2 i've seen in breakers yards since didn't have one:doh

Had these made at work today:thumb2

Just got them drilled to suit the holes on the front of the chassis and get them powder coated and fitted.

I have a 97 SWB, left-hand drive, originally from the Netherlands. Only one pigtail in front, opposite drivers side.

I've got the single standard pig tail on at the moment, drivers side only.
Saw some like these on an oz forum and being as I work for an engineering company decided to make my own.

Looking good... how much for a pair delivered to Kent?? I don't need the shackles, as I already have some, which should cut down on the weight and postage a bit.
