Front Downpipe Replacement

Off my T2 :sly Yep straight off the turbo. It's the turbo exhaust elbow thing that's the stinker on these systems, just so restrictive.
The whole lot just fits stright up from underneath. Nothing to undo anywhere :sly

Where did you get that downpipe?? :naughty
I really want one of those.

I got my local exhaust guru to make it up but any exhaust fabricator should be able to do it
I got the flange off ebay for simplicity for him to weld back from :thumbs

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So it's not just me that got tricked by this!!!!!! It's a mind trick, trust me it fits, they are the same size, next to each other they all look different sizes!!

I posted a while back about my front pipe. I don't think I'm man enough to undo those stinking front pipe studs. One of them must have snapped before because it's a bolt but that has actually slackened off easily.

Are those nuts on the studs really 14mm?

Those utter gits at ATS obviously lied to me then! They told me they'd tried it and it didn't fit :sly Sly feckers 'repaired' it for the MOT using a Fanta can and two U-clamps. They didn't charge me, in all fairness.

Right, that's another job for this weekend (along with the clutch master cylinder)

Replaced mine a few months ago all from underneath, 14mm deep socket 2 foot long extension and with a bit of wiggleing came out for fun. When you offer the pipes up against each other they look a mile out but if you get a tape measure, measure from the flange to flange diagonally they are the same . Replaced all studs with a good dollop of copper grease.

I know copper slip is heat resistant but surely not so much?

Thought about replacing with stainless steel bolts or something.

Mine's started blowing and needs changing. Lack of tools and decent space for working (and potentially awkward bolts) means I'll probably drop it at the garage.

Yes! I've just done mine today. Pair of ramps was all I used. I disconnected the front prop-shaft at the front of teh truck just so I could get in with a flame and get some heat on the nuts. Turned out I didn't need to, but it gave me more space to work in

Best way to get that bolt is (I'm sure someone's already mentioned it?) is with 2 long 1/2" extensions and a knuckle. Piece of cake, it really is. Gearbox support bracket can stay on as you can manoeuvre the pipe out pretty easily.

I'm sure the above has already been confirmed, but I can add my endorsement after this morning :thumbs
