front o/s caliper binding after fitting new pads, tried freeing it off working the pistons back with tool, then pumping them back.
freed it up but after a couple of days it was binding again, so i bit the bullet and bought a replacement but even though i`m now 75 quid lighter,:doh i notice after 12 mile journey to work the hubs are quite hot to touch is this normal, when the caliper was binding you couldn`t touch the front hub for excessive heat. both hubs feel quite hot but nowhere near as hot as the one which had the dodgy caliper.
i`m not familier with this, as i`ve only owned my t2 for 2 months would it make a difference if i stripped down and greased front bearings if anyone can help i would appreciate it thanks:nenau

Brakes do generally get hot during normal runing as the pads are in contact with the disc 24/7 but if you are finding one side is getting excessively "hotter" than the other side - despite being new...remove the pads and check the capliers are free to move and are not ceased.

What are the disc surfaces like? are they heavily grooved?

Did you replace the pads both sides?

Does the vehicle pull to one side during normal driving or braking?

Is one hub hotter than the other?

When my ns auto locking hub got jammed it created a lot of heat, after a good long drive it was actually smoking it got so hot.

As said though the brakes do create a lot of heat.

i changed the full set of pads,:thumb2 the caliper on the passenger side was free and easy to push the pistons back, there was a sticker on top of the caliper which was unreadable, and the caliper was bright in colour. this lead me to think it was changed fairly recently. :clap
the caliper on the driver side was the opposite the pads were nearly to the metal :doh the other side had 1/4 inch left on them,:thumb2 i borrowed a windback tool to press the pistons back in as they were solid, after working the pistons back and fore, `using tool to press them in and the pedal to pump them back out` it freed up, i coppergreased the sliders well and reasembled:).
all was well for 2-3 days then drivers side started pulling to the right, and you could feel the brake dragging if you eased off the throttle. :doh
i bit the bullet and bought a reconned caliper, i`m 75 quid lighter but what a difference no more dragging, i can freewheel for over 10 yards with ease. my fuel consumption has dropped dramatically.:thumb2 i followed the download for auto hub lube, and coppergreased the drivers hub,:thumb2 but my concern is even after a short journey 12 miles to work when i touch the hubs they both feel quite hot:nenau, is this normal they both feel about the same temperature, unlike before when you could cook an egg on the driverside hub. i appreciate anyones input on this, as i`m not sure how it should be. thanks to all who has posted Andy.:thumb2

All the cars i have ever had the brakes get warm, how warm normally depends on how much you brake, even on a relativly short journey if you brake alot they get hotter. In the past if i have ever had a problem with my brakes binding they are stinking hot, too hot to touch.

As said brakes do get hot, especially now you've probably fixed the fault and maybe a bit paranoid and looking for something that may not be. ;)

If the brakes are binding on a new set of pads they will let you know all about it  - they will stink:eek:, smoke :eek: and you won't be able to put your hands near them.

Keep an eye on it .... and in time you'll forget all about it :thumbs
