Picked up Foxy, a 2004 Patrol 3.0TDi SVE LWB in March 2013 and have been in love ever since!

She was bought as a replacement for my Shogun 2.8 LWB which was great and is still going strong with the guy who bought her as far as I know, I just fancied something a bit newer.

Considered a newer Shogun but didn't like the idea of the all round independent suspension and then I remembered a group review in Total 4x4 that had praised the Patrol as an offroader and the rest is history. I went all the down to Hebden Bridge to get her and got to know her on the drive back up :D

We had snow soon after I got her back up... just in time to test out my new AT's :thumbs

On of the first things I did was fit a towing jaw in place of the existing towball and replace the plastic trailer sockets with metal ones.

Went on the Wales trip and removed the whole tow bracket to improve the ground clearance.

On the road home after a great weekend :D (As you might be able to see the sidesteps took a bit of a beating!)

Managed to mangle a sidewall a bit though.

Had an offroad lesson in the Trol a few months later which was the last outing (and battering) for the sidesteps. If you look at the rear lights you can see the screws that had to be put in after Foxy and I took on the Strata Florida Bombhole!

Picked up a nice big roofrack and took some kit down to Fez on the way to do one of my Spartan races (was removed not long after as I noticed a big decrease in MPG).

Also replaced the rear bumper lights with euro spec rear lights (all mounted in the boot pillars). Passenger side was completely plug and play, driver side needed a wire run under the boot floor for the brake light. Both light clusters had reverse lights but you only need to have one on the passenger side so I used that bulb socket for the fog light. Made up some blanking plates out of chequerplate to cover the holes.

Converted my auto hubs to manuals the other week. As Trol hubs are auto with a manual override that allows you to lock them up permanently you can remove the auto part and the hubs become completely unlocked when on "auto" and locked as normal when on "lock".

Quite a common conversion with the Aussie Trol owners and means I now won't have any of the issues you can get with auto hubs and I can also get 2wd low :sly (hubs unlocked and transfer box in 4L).

Also fitted a second factory tow point on the passenger side (captive nuts and holes in the chassis were already there) much better pulling from both sides.

Also going to get the garage to sort the play in the driver side swivel bearings as I don't have the time to do it myself just now :doh and when I was doing the recovery point I noticed this has started on the driver side :(

Doesn't leave any oil on the floor and when I checked the oil level in the front diff today there's plenty there so I wonder if the play in the bearings could be causing the seal to leak when I'm driving/steering :nenau

Don't they do gaiters for the swivel joints, I had a set on one of my LR's and they looked like new when I had a look inside.
The LR was about 25 years old by the way.

Not as far as I know bud, although there's scrapers and seals in the swivel to stop mud and other gunk getting in (you can see the marks from them on the swivel). There's also an inner seal on the shaft and that's the one that the diff oil is leaking from :(

Dont think diff oil goes to the swivels. Think grease is in them?

Yeh bud swivels are grease but if the inner axle seal goes then the diff oil leaks into the swivel and out the bottom of it. Like I said it seems to only be when the swivels are actually moving (ie. steering) and even then it's not much so I'm wondering if it's just due to the play in the swivel and wheel bearings or else maybe the swivel seal is just stopping the diff oil seeping out until the swivels are moving :nenau Guess I'll find out when the garage have a look at it to do the bearings!

Well, flywheel and HD clutch fitted and it is looooveeeellly :D

Definitely more road noise when cruising and you notice if you're in too high a gear due to the gearbox chatter but feels like a more direct connection between the engine and driveline. There seems to be a distinct bark/growl from the engine when you take up the drive which I guess is due to not having the dampening effect of the DMF - love it :thumbs

Can't wait until June to see what the difference is when offroading as there's mean't to be a slight torque increase due to the flywheel conversion and the HD clutch (30% more clamp) :naughty

Woohoo got Foxy some new (to me) shoes! 4 used 32" Khumo KL71 Muds with 15mm tread :D

Gonna sell the 4 265/70 16 General Grabber ATs I've got at the moment (~6mm tread) along with a couple of barely used road tyres that were on the Trol which should cover most of the cost of the muds.

Just got to find a tyre for the spare wheel now. Tempted to just go for a road tread for the spare as they seem to be cheaper :nenau What do you guys think?

Nah, get a matching tyre, it'll pop up :thumb2

I'd just get a road going tyre for the spare. As close to the size of the kl71s.

Yeh need to get the current spare off though as it's one of the road tyres I would be selling with the AT's so I can't be hanging about waiting on another bargain used mud coming up :nenau

Did see a used road tread with 5/6mm going for about £50/60 inc postage but it's had a repair so I'm not too keen.

These are the possible spares I've found:-

Marshal AT for £80 inc postage

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151305096160?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Dunlop Grandtek about £85 inc postage

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321407843921?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Hankook Dynapro MT £92.50 inc postage

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121310856664?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Having thought about it again I reckon for the sake of £12.50 I might as well go for the Dynapro.

What do you think?

How come your selling the spare with the ATs? I'd keep it.
