I found this picture

OK so its an old one but the Missus does like her SL 500.

The C250 TD Estate has long gone it was not well liked and only kept it 2 years against the SL thats been with us for 7 years.

Crazy thing is the Missus prefers the R3mR that I bought for going fishing in !

Nice looking SL!! I'd have some of that!

I used to have a C-class estate....like driving a sofa around and very unreliable...it was the car that finally persuaded me to give up company cars and take an allowance instead, which bought my first S-plate Maverick...

Hello Lacroupade.
Cannot help but respond to defend my old W Reg.Merc 220 cdi estate. My last company car which I bought at a knockdown price when I took early retirement-or VR in 2003. It now has 215k miles on the clock, dragged my caravan 1.6 tons + to Spain and back 5 times, and twice to mid France. It has only ever let me down twice with minor faults. On each occasion it was the mechanics error after service/repair. Not the best ride in the world, suspension wise but, a sofa ride was not bad to climb into after a long meeting and 200 miles to go home! I guess it just grew on me.
Incidentally all my family think that I am crackers keeping it when I have the Terrano to pull the van,and wifes Peugeot 207 for solo trips.
Regards
Mike P

In defence of some Mercs

I have owned seven Mercs over the years and most of them were over six years old when I purchased them, with the exception of my C 250 TD Estate they were all very reliable and had great bodywork (Galvanised).

I found the old W124 models the most reliable my old 260 E Sportline was one of my favourites it had 108 K on the clock when I bough it and when I sold it with 186 K it still burnt no oil and always started first turn of the key.

My W124 300 TE 4-matic (four wheel drive) was 18 years old when I bought it one Doctor owner from new (done 103 k) who lived in Scotland. I found it on the nett at an Arther Daley type used car lot in Bolton - Star Cars I think it was !!

I paid £1000 for it and was very sad to sell it three years later when the self levelling suspension packed up. On this early 4-matic the rear suspension pump also controlls the transfer box so it reverts to rear wheel drive only.

I still wonder if I should have repaired it and kept it going !

As I had a good offer on the car sold as seen with fault declared I decided to let it go and thats when I bought the R3mR as I did not have a huge budget for a third vehicle.

To date the R3mR has shown typical Nissan reliability with no costly issues, it has 72 k on the clock so should be good for another few years. I think its weakness will be the bodywork so I am looking at some serious Waxoyl treatment this summer.

Thought i'd add a few pics of my toys.
