Today i was defeated by a green lane in my ttruck which still runs factory standard bridgestone 689's in good nick as it has only done 20k miles, I was slipping sideways and loosing stopping ability, and i was alone, so before tackling the steepest stretch i bottled it

So now for new tyres, the present ones are 265 70 15, and there aint much choice, i thought of KL71's but they dont seem to do the size

what i would like to know is this, does any web site carry a calculator to convert tyre sizes, so I can find the closest LT tyre? you know like 33 12.5 15etc.

Cheers

you need zippy656, i bet he has a conversion site.:thumbs

interesting thought as 235 75 15's are pretty common, do you think they would sit on the rims ok? as its an exspensive gamble to order 4 and find they dont

I have terrano 16" rims and have fitted 265/75/16's

they were also standard fitment too so as long as you're not on the early 6" steels you'll be fine. Someone must have changed yours

Early ones 215/80/15
Most 15" - 235/75/15 - 7" rim
16"- 235/70/16 - 7" rim
17" - 235/65/17 - 7" rim

7" rim is ok for up to 265 wide.

mine had 235 70 16. now running on 235 75 15's

either works well.

As Terra says they should fit your existing wheels (your 265s are just over an inch wider than standard tyres...and I'd be surprised if you've got 6" wheels - I know on my first S-plate Maverick that even going from the OEM Pirelli Scorpions to whatever else it was I fitted in the same size, that the fitters had trouble squeezing the weights in because the tyrewall had a slightly more rounded profile. Is there any way you can measure the wheel just to be sure?

235x75 will stand slightly taller, but not by much....as you know 235 is the width of the tyre in mms and the 75 is the percentage of that width that the tyrewall is high (if you see what I mean!)

So a 235x70x15 will have a width of 23.5 cms and a tyrewall height of 70% of that = 16.45 cms.

A 235x75x15 will have the same width but the tyrewall height will be 75% of that so 23.5 x 75% = 17.625 cms.

So the 75 profile simply adds (17.625-16.45) x 2 = 2.35cms, or approximately 1" to the height of the tyre top to bottom. Easily accommodated.

All very tru mate but Planks first post says he has 265/70/15s on but everyone seem to be ignoring that.

cheers for the help, i dont know where your info is from but theese are standard fit alloy wheels and original first set of tyres, the ones it came from the factory with, the size is even listed in the owners handbook! and on the sticker on the door pillar and they are definately 265 70 15! it is a xlt model rather than a basic comercial ones.

Oddly a friedn of mine has a new (58)a basic commercial 4x4 one that has 235/75/15 on steel wheels, and he bought that from the dealers, so that doesnt fit the above description either?

I dont want to change the wheels or do a body lift or cut anything off, i am happy to keep it standard, so i am looking for as close a replacment size as possible.

I am still confused

but thanks for the help so far!

Ah but you didn't tell us what you were driving - so its not a Terrano like everyone assumed (cos you used to have one)

Come on Plank you've been here long enough to know the score, put your vehicle spec in your signature
