fixes for leaky fuel pump?

Howdy y'all

As some of you spotted earlier from a previous post my fuel pump is leaking, some say swapping back to diesel will cure this, however i do not see this being the correct fix, what is really needed to cure this and how difficult is it?

Gasket and strip? Tighten of pipes? :nenau

running diesel for a bit should cure it, it did mine, then i run veg again

Chuck some engine oil stop leak in the tank. Takes about 200 miles to work cured my leaking pump. Two cans I put in.

veg oil clears all the crap out of systems, the same crap that has built up around the rubber seals and protects them for so long. running on diesel will lower the suction on those seals and may, just may let them seat again. i would look at a second hand pump off ebay and strip and rebuild then do a straight swap over if i was in that position. where is the leak from? are you sure it is not from the spill pipe return to pump?

I do like the sound of swapping back to diesel and seeing if it stops :lol (I always love free fixes)

I'd be a bit scared,to put any type of "stop leak" in my fuel, given the viscosity of my fuel already my injectors would probably blow up :doh

Mine was leaking as you describe Alex. To be honest I'd rather try the engine oil stop leak for the sake of a tenner. It was actually a post on this forum that led me to trying it

Mine is also showing a slight weap, does the oil stop leak not cause issue with injectors?

Never had any probs when I used mine is a 2.7td however. I'm sure someone on here used it in a tdi.

the basic idea with all stop leak additives, is that they should only react and do their job on contact with air, ie the leak point, but other problems can introduce small amounts of air that could cause injector problems, (small amounts of water for instance) = almost the same as air, so no I would never ever use such crap in my engine, Rick

Fair point to rick. It worked on mine and saved me doing a pump strip still not leaking 2000 miles on. Haven't had any running issues either.
