Fitting roof bars

At the bottom of the rails legs there are these bit which secure the rails to the body but can't see any marks on them where a spacer would have been

When you drill the holes in the roof you will see, you go through the roof skin then drop down to the supports that the rivnuts fit to, you need the spacers to go between the rivnut and roof skin, Rick

So I take it the spacers are held in place by the rivnuts then ? Do the spacers fit on the outside of the body or on the inside tried them up to the roof earlier & the centre mounting point seems to be 4 mm above the roof skin but does flex down when you push on it starting to think trying to fit these isn't a good idea & slinging them in the bin:augie

no they are tubes that the bolts go through into the rivnuts, that is why they got left behind, when the bars were removed, with all the mastic on them they would have just looked like bolt holes in the roof, Rick

Not me, if I had sold em the spacers would have been included tied with wire to their specific locations , you saw the pic from under that teranosaurosedoug posted think you can see that two very different spacers are needed there, Rick

I thought that was just the under side of the rivnuts with the bolts showing

yes TD that is the picture but if you look at the underside pic you will see two different levels and the roof above is curved so different length spacers are needed, as for the tool sweety I am not sure, rivnuts take an awful lot more effort than a pop rivet, I think lazy ferret has the tool so be good to ask him, that one looks like a converted pop rivet tool but it may have gearing inside that requires multi pull operations in which case it could do, but one squeeze of the arms will defo not do it, Rick

Once you've got it, you'll find a use for it!

Don't forget, cheap tools are cheap for a reason.

I'm a bit lost now, as understand it the rubber feet are shaped to fit the contour of the roof, except for the rear two which are just flat.
So from top to bottom you have roof rail, rubber foot, first skin of roof, spacer, then second skin of roof which needs riv-nut putting in. If I get a chance tomorrow I will have a better look at mine for you :thumbs

thanks mav96, yes that is more in line with the sort of effort required to set rivnuts, as said before I did mine with threaded rod but it was hard work, multiple lock nuts to try to make the rod pull instead of turning, Rick
