Fitting of CB radio in centre box

Hi there all, mostly i have been fitting a CB radio namely a TTi TCB-880 to the Ford Maverick toy and would like to share the fitting with you all.

I first removed the centre box form the in front of gear stick, it just pulls off .

Then in to the work shop (garage pit) for some time with the dremmal tool and the cutting disk.
I marked off roughly the distance i would cut approx 2/3" and cut the top and sides.

Leaving the cut off "flap" for a very cunning plane later!!

As you can see you might need to cut slightly along the bottom a few mm to be able to bend back.

Now slip it in nice and gentle :augie

Now heres the cunning bit with the flap you can slide the CB into the recess like so.

Which holds the CB in nice.Then its just a question of feeding wires and cables though the opening and wiring up, I used a switch live (only live with ignition on) just in case i left it on and drained the battery.

As you can see a nice fit flush with trim and snug in place as the pocket tapers in at back.
Next i fitted the SWR metre just under the gear stick boot, the gear change is not affected.

Nice blue display.

Also the PA horn went in under bonnet at front :lol which I have had soooo much fun with, as people dont know were the voice is coming from :lol:lol:lol

Except.........you may need to screw the front of the plastic cubby in place!
I did what you did and thought all was well till I went off road, used the mic in a hurry and ended up with the cb and plastic bit round my ankles:augie

Yes very good and neat too, I do like how you left part of the back panel there so the rig just slides in and no further. The rig has gotta be a good one it's got blue LED's in it:lol
Is that some rusty metal supports behind the dash I can see. Wish my T2 had air vents down there.

Most of the under dash is rusty as it has been stood for 3 years.

you just need the cubby hole with the vents in and the two conecting pipes, as teh other pipes are there, just need conecting up.

Up-Date

Just a up date on CB install, setting up/checking the CB with SWR meter reviled that there was some thing wrong as the reading was over 3 :doh..

Used a swivel joint to O/S/R "C" pillar and ran wire under outside trim and in though the air gutter under trim.

So out with the Ohm meter and checked for shorts and sure enough there was a Short to ground :doh so disconnected all aerial leads and started from the front all OK.

Until i got to back where i connected it to rear and found that i had invertible connected the aerial to connector straight to earth :doh:doh, so dis assembled and opened up hole to fit recess washer in to stop earthing reconnected and rechecked for voltage drop, still high, so disconnected again and cleaned off paint where the fixing was going reconnected and YESSS all good :clap.

Reading down now to under 1.5 :thumbs

The thread has alloy greas on it as well as the other threads and joiners, i will get around to wrapping some insulting tape on it later on
