First make sure you have got everything you need

Next I lined up the template.
2013-12-29102104_zpsed68ab5b.jpg

i put pilot holes in first and checked they looked ok before i drilled out the holes.
2013-12-29104155_zps8f878c7f.jpg

i used a 9mm drill for the mounting holes.
2013-12-29105605_zps27cfa1d2.jpg

i didnt have a holesaw big enough so i used the jigsaw with a metal cutting
blade.taped up the bottom to stop it scratching.
2013-12-29105628_zps1447e41e.jpg

cleaned up the hole with a file.
2013-12-29110355_zps1bbba080.jpg

put some rubber edging around the hole.
2013-12-29110921_zps083361b0.jpg

couldnt get up under the wing so i unbolted it across the top and behind the door.i was then able to lift it away to give me enough room to tighten up the nuts.
2013-12-29114517_zps85005917.jpg

i then attached my flxi hose to the rubber hose that fits to the back of the snorkel body.
2013-12-29133840_zps6c30d631.jpg

i had to make the hole in the inner wing a bit bigger so i could feed the flexi hose through into the engine bay.

cleaned up the hole and put some rubber edging on it.
2013-12-29134748_zps5154a861.jpg

next i fastened the rubber hose to the snorkel body and fed the flexi hose into the engine bay.

now it was time to mod the air box.i cut a 3"diameter hole and welded in a peice of 3"diameter tube.

2013-12-29152004_zps84ead7e7.jpg

next i blanked off the old air box intake.
2013-12-29160943_zps5e377806.jpg

i put the airbox back in and connected up the flexi hose.

by this time it was dark so i will put some paint and tiger seal on the joints and check it for leaks in the morning.

Brillant where did you get the blue flexi hose from?

Cheers Gav

You can use Samco hose, the OEM stuff that they use for the Focus RS Turbo and use the existing hole in the air box, it's a very very tight fit but at least you know it's a solid fit

Great post, and the pictures are really helpful.

One day I hope to have sufficient nerve to cut a hole in my wing, but until that day I have some questions...

Where did you buy the snorkel kit, and how much?

How will you check it for leaks?

Did the kit come with the adapter for the air box?

Thanks for any answers.

Alan

The blue flexi hose was bought from auto silicone hoses, they have an e bay shop at the cost of £10.00 delivered.
The snorkel kit was bought from direct 4x4 in derby which cost £110.00 delivered.they also have an eBay shop.
The air box mod was a DIY job.I scrounged a length of 3" diameter tube from work.
To leak test it you put a plastic bag over the intake and it should stall the engine.
If it keeps running then you have a leak somewhere.
Be careful when doing this as you don't want to suck the bag into the engine.
Have some one sat in the car ready to turn off the engine when you put the bag over the intake.
Still not done mine yet as I am waiting for the sealer to go off overnight.

Cutting the hole is the easy part, but getting it in the right place is the trick bit.
The template is for the navara wing so a bit of modification is needed.
I held the snorkel up to the wing in the position I wanted it then marked the wing with a whiteboard marker.
I then modified the template to line up with the marks I made on the wing.
Taped it on had a quick check a nod drilled away when I was happy.
The reason I used a white board marker is so you can just wipe off the marks without damaging the paintwork.

Bag test. I like that.

Would love one... maybe when sorting rust on wing

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

You've done a very good job of the installation.

Regards

Alan

there goes your spare battery space:doh
im thinking I may put two in the boot:D
but got to worry about gasses n stuff first.

Chuffed you got your Christmas pressie fitted:D when we going play again to test our depth gauge:lol

Nice one elty001 but where did you fit the bananas:lol:lol:lol would the hose from the snorkel attach onto the Terrano intake that go's through the wing with a little mod ?

That's easy use dry cell batteries :thumbs plus they can be mounted on their sides, often used in large car audio set ups

only thing in the navara kit worth anything is the top intake and the wing fitting.
everything else can be modded.

will look into the battery thing.

Ive got a nice little spot in mind in the boot to fit two.the cables will go through the floor along the chassis and power lighting winch and a back up general flat bat situation.

2nd battery not high on my list so not worried about the space at the moment.
As for the rust on the wing I decided it was too far gone to repair so I have bought a new one for £80 with not a mark or rust bubble on it so I have the pleasure of re drilling the wing all over again:lol
Gonna get it drilled and sprayed when I go back to work.

But at least you had a practice run on your old wing.

:lol::lol practise makes perfect :lol:lol

If at first you don't succeed...

Give up... :lol:lol

With the old wing, why not make a cardboard or wall paper template, that other members could use, then pass on etc etc.

Cost of postage and big envelope to be recovered as required.:nenau

I would think that cutting that big hole would put off a few people.:doh

Great pics and great write up too, nice to see someone else do it.
I have to be honest i have considered buying the very same kit a few times but the thought of cutting into the wing has always put me off...

As long as you take your time you will be fine cutting the hole in the wing.
Check twice and cut once as the saying goes.
I have already thought about making a couple of templates up when I take the old wing off.

Nice new shiny wing, pity it's not the right colour but a bargain for 80 quid.
2014-01-01124546_zpsfea95af6.jpg

Can't believe how clean it is not a spot of rust any where:thumbs
2014-01-01124620_zpsb1fc34c6.jpg

Gonna get it drilled later.

I love your new set of wheels, next to the new wing.:lol

That wing looks in fairly good condition.
Don't forget... lashings of waxoyl everywhere.:thumb2

Don't forget the inner wing too.

0-60 in 25 pushes:lol
Gonna lather the inside with waxoyl after it's been re spayed and the inner wing before I fit it.:thumbs
