The blue one you show is VGA graphics slot for an external monitor. You need a serial DB9.David.

Best lookfor an adapter USB to Serial, of these there are good bad and crap , someone who has one will, I hope, let you know whats the best for you.

Ok mate cheers, prolly get one from pc world in the morn

Also, will this modded unit work with ecutalk ?

I sell usb to serial adaptors for radios on ebay, I can test one I have here and if it works sell you one if you like.

As some chipsets work, some might not.

Thanks for the offer mate, but I'm itching to play with this so will go pc world in the morning

Cheers

Well that hasn't worked, led on consult doesn't even light up :/

First check you have 12V on the 14pin connector, between 12V IGN & Ground.

I have 11.78v so yes

I assume you'll say its knackered now and that i must check it for a dry joint on the board etc ?

11.78 is close enough.

I'd find a pc with a proper serial connector, to rule out the usb to serial adaptor as they all have different chipsets and some hardware don't like certain ones etc.

I'm trying to get the led to light up on the consult first mate, i dont think it has power

I would be checking the voltage at the battery, if it is fully charged and giving 12.8 volts then 11.78 is not good at the socket, it points to a bad connection, dont forget that your volt meter is putting no load on so a bad connection can give a low reading which breaks down completely under load, try reading the voltage with your gubbins connected, Rick

thats the voltage on the consult 14 pin plug, my wiring is connected to the car via modded loom and obd2 plug as seen here:

if you are reading the volts at the 14 pin plug with the engine running would expect 14 + volts so 11.78 is by my reckoning too low, but should still be enough to light the light on your unit, so you need to check the unit I think, Rick

I will see if mines lights up without the serial adaptor connected etc.

Can't remember if it needs to be connected too?

That is a good point, it may only light when they are talking to each other, Rick

also remember the engine needs to be on or at-least the ignition?
