hi all the maverick failed the mot today
front flexi exhaust

nearside drag link end ball joint/ would this be the track rod end?

nearside and offside anti rollbar rubber mounting

offside rear brake recording little or no effect

when i went back up to the test station hills ford main dealer he explained to me that the brake drum was wet and it would be either brake fluid or leaking from the axle. i then pointed out it was diesel where i had cut the pipe through all in all they wanted £780.00 to do the job etb are doing exhaust and brakes £280 all in all other bits £30.00 autostores just wondering if any one would know about the draglink balljoint as i have a breakdown of the prices per job and that came back at £530.00 thanks

http://www.milneroffroad.com/nissan/terrano/r20-2-7td-1993-1999-maverick-1993-terrano-1if its the draglink ball joint then the whole draglink has to be replaced, not too expensive from milners.
are you positive its only diesel in the hub if so a good clean out and new rear shoes will sort that, and front flexi is not too big a job but a garage will claim they have to remove front propshaft to get at the bolts which is where the money is in labour.
if you could do it yourself you could source all the parts from milners for around 150 quid max.:thumbs

Is it a big job to do it thanks

Mate... If your paying that sort of money i suggest you find someone on here and pay them a fair sum instead :doh

That's an astronomical amount of cash to splash...

I paid 8 quid for anti roll bar from allparts.

I suggest you source some parts and see if you can find someone to tinker with you :thumb2

Got the exhaust and brakes done at etb 280.00 quid but the handbrake is not working. Now and the brake fluid level was really low so im guessing they need to. Bleed it through so it will be going back tomorrow. I was told by the mechanic that he could not source the draglink and i would have find one second hand. i asked the question on here and was told milners so that's all good i will order tonight.after looking at the part in question its 2 nuts to take it of so will do myself.but i did ask a mechanic down the road he said 50.00 to do the job when. I showed him the estimate he could not understand how they came to this figure

Yup that's what I'm thinking. Sounds like they just thought of a number...

And if I'm right, they did the brakes but left the fluid and handbrake??

I done the front discs and pads myself last week so they had the back to do i thought there was diesel in the drum but it turned out to be a ****ed cylinder i think the handbrake is all part of the back brakes when i left etb by the time i got home there was lots of smoke coming from the wheel arch. So i rang them up and wastold there was a. Lot of shit in there burning off and if it was the same in three days to take it back but the one drum is cold and the other is hot including the wheel so i would say that the brake is binding

Yup, sounds like a bit of a fob off to me, might be genuine but seems a little fishy to me. Get it out the door and back in a week it's a seperate issue :nenau

At the end of the day i have paid for it to be sorted so they have to do it if i need new cables that's fine but that doesn't answer the question of the brake drum getting hot

Do you know if the part i need is called a draglink or a relay center rod its the big bar that connects directly to the steering box when i put draglinks in to the search part of the site i get know results

I once had a similar issue with the rear brakes and indeed turned out to be a faulty handbrake cable, this heat is not good so probably better not driving it until sorted out.
Also if you had wet behind a rear wheel and you are losing brake fluid then at a rough guess the rear brake cylinder is faulty too.

I've heard the centre relay rod called the drag link, to be sure go back to test station and ask them. Once this is changed your tracking will need adjusting, if not you risk uneven wear on the front tyres.

All in all it sounds like the garage have given you a rough ride, best of luck sorting it out. If or when you go back to the garage be careful how you handle it. Try and be calm and don't shout but at the same time be firm with them.

It's the centre relay rod if you go on milners site, choose make and model then go to steering and suspension section it will be in there
Its a bar with a ball joint and a hole on each end

Your rear brake issue sounds like something I had with one of my trucks and it turned out to be a broken hand brake cable
Plenty of help to hand on here if you have any questions so don't be afraid to ask no matter how small an issue.
The knowledge I have gained from this site is price less. :thumb2

Very encouraging community i thank you all

Hand brake cables are not that cheap on these.

SWB are different to LWB.
Don't forget that you can also buy the same Ford part from a Nissan dealer, and vice versa ...however, they don't have each others part No's so can be a pain for them to cost up, as they don't recognise each others chassis numbers.:doh

£116 for cable and fitting
