Hi everyone.. Sorry but back on the roof rail theme again... I just bought a pair of factory fitted roof rails. They bolt down to the roof.. 2 bolts per leg 3 legs per side.. BUT.. I am not sure how to fit them. :(

Does anyone know if there is any marks on the under side of the roof. Or could anyone give me some measurements of where they go..

My terrano is a 1993 long wheelbase. any help would be very much appreciated....... :)

there are no marks on the underside, all roof lining has to come down and out or it will crease, and the creases will not come out.

the rail feet will have a slight shape to them that lines up with the roof creases/ grooves, just line up on roof with back feet just starting to go round the rear rounded part of the roof above rear door, you will see what i mean when you place them on the roof, becarefull when bolting down, and try to space any gaps between the roog and any cross members you drill through, or when you tighten the bolts they will cause dents around the feet.

also you need to use some sunroof mastic tape used for sealing sunroof to body (water tight tape) DO NOT USE SILICON SEALANT it contains an acid that eats away at metal and paint!

just out of interest where did you get your roof rails from as I woud like some too! :D

I got them from a breakers yard... £66.97 inc p+p

Am i allowed to put this in the forum... My aapologiesif not.. But I have had many parts from these guys and they have been good...

Try Nissan or Ford, they may give you the cardboard template they use for fitting them 8O

:D

I have now fitted my roof rails.. (':D')
Very Happy.. easy as pie.(':D')
Very Happy, bottom of rails plate is moulded to fit roof.. cant go wrong.. Dont use nuts and bolts, use nut rivets. this is what nissan use. drill holes , insert rivets, compress rivets, fit roof rails. took less than an hour. Well pleased. :D

If you use nut rivets you DO NOT have to touch the inside headliner or anything else. just take care when drilling incase of drilling through the lining.. drill through a wooden block then cut the block down as a distance piece and leave on drill bit. stops damage to the rooflining.

Nut riveter from ebay £13.99 rivets from ebay M6 £4.99 piece of cake. best investment ever...

good info!

I want to do same but didn't know how...now I do Thanks!!

I desperately need to do the same.. (but I'm scared)

It's roof rails.. or the truck has to go though I'm afraid :(

Roof rails are a piece of cake to install. my 12 year old son done one side... It really is that easy...

ok.. I'm gonna do it..

Anyone got some for sale? I noticed that lots of people on the forum mention wanting to take them off.

Hi, I know this thread is about fitting roof rails, but how are they removed,

I cannot see where or how to get to any fixing points, I have removed the 2 allen key bolts and the centre allen key grub screw but still nothing seems to be loose to get at any fixings?.

Update on this..........

Have been out and bought some automotive sealer so no probs there. Started on the driverside first. The centre mounting has a grub screw, took this out and found it to be pointed on the end of it. The centre mounting is now loose. One the ends of the bars there is an alan bolt, took this out but it has not released the front and back mountings. Removed the trims and pulled head lining back and proved it is captive rivet type nuts so these are def screwed in from the outside. Noticed a small plastic cover in a channel on the back of the rails, inside here is another alan screw. However this screw requires a ball ended alan key to remove it. Will have to get one of these on Monday, will take a few photos and try to upload them so that others can see how these rails are fitted.
