Afternoon all

Our X-Trail 2.2 Diesel is coming upto its 3 years old - all 3 of these items need sorting.

Other than a recent oil leak and stereo Jumping which hasn't been sorted, no major issues.

Do Nissan Do anything or would anybody advise most cost effective way of sorting these 3 things together, or are there better deals to have by separating them out. I am assuming for warranty extension it has to be Nissan approved dealership for any service.

Is the extended warranty worth paying?

Thanks in advance for any help

1st get nissan to give you a new stereo, under currant warranty 8O
if they start being silly quote the sale of goods act and fit for purpose. If you buy a new stereo you could reasonably expect it to last more than 3 years.

How much is the extended warranty????????

Morning Jocky

Nissan Warranty Quoted Yesterday
1 Year £500
2 Year £750 includes MOT for 2nd and 3rd Year (ie 5th and 6 Year of Car Life).

Our biggest issue is we don't do mileage to recover these costs.

The Tape issue has a history as it looks like previous owner replaced tape and serial numbers do not stack up. He will not respond to any of my calls anymore - therefore Nissan will not sort.

I have checked other quotes for Warranty outside of Nissan - circa £250?

Hi there,

The price Nissan is asking is unreal, are they knuts

I haven't purchased an extended warranty for a while, but I remember warranty direct were quite good, they have different levels of cover for different prices :?:
Last one I had was with RAC when I had a nearly new Vectra, cost £200 for 2 years and I got my monies worth. New power steering pump and Aircon repaired twice in 2 years and new gearbox as the bearings were shot

I see what you mean about the stereo.

I personally wouldn't buy MOT cover on a 3 year old car.

Let us know you get on

Oil Leak in Timing Belt Cover Area

Morning all

XTrail 2.2DCi 2005

as part of 3 year annual service and MOT - Nissan have discovered an oil leak in Timing Belt Cover- apparently when cover has previously removed / replaced some longer bolts have been used and cover has cracked, they are asking to replace the Cover in XS of £300, however have debated about how the oil leak would stop.
the Timing Belts are all belts aren't they and not Chains?
Nissan are saying they cannot sort under warranty as a previous claim has already gone in for this oil leak and now they have caused extra damage.
All servicing was done under Nissan main dealers.

any sort of responses for something similar would help

Thanks

hi kular
if the previous work to which the damage had been created, should be covered if done by nissan approved site, as it was caused by them. if this was done before you bought the car , it is difficult to chase up. if they damaged it ,they fix it or which ever garage didn,t it. it would be covered under normal warranty of product it,s self.trading standards would be interested if they didn,t. you cannot take a car to have work done, damage it and not be held responseable for that damage. if you can not speak to the previous owner about the work done , this will be hard. you will need to verify what work has been done and go to same garage that did work.

I have had stuff done if past that resulted in similar problems.you need to do your home work first. check how long each product warranty lasts different things like paint work having longer warranty than other things.

make sure your facts are in order before paying for any warranties.
good luck it can be complicated.

We're in the same position, an 06 X-trail coming upto 3 years old, so we've looked at the warranty direct policies.

The more basic policy is £16 per month, the more advanced around £25 pm.

The basic does cover turbo internals & wastegate, and damage to casing if caused by internal failiures, so can anyone point me in the direction of exactly what "turbo failiures" the XT is prone to? The more advanced just covers the turbocharger, so is it internal (bearing?) failiures, or is it casings failing?

The higher level of cover give greater transmission cover, but even the basic doesn't seem to exclude 4wd systems, it is just a bit more narrow in terms of cover, but then the commonest XT problems seem to have been turbo/intercooler problems from some basic internet research.

Hi Kular

Firstly, shop around....its easy to Google this stuff; get reviews on the warranty provider and no, they don't usually insist you use a Nissan dealer, just a registered garage (although some might insist you use OEM bits).

Secondly, whats a tape? LOL...seriously, surf the net a bit and get a new stereo (CD player) for £60-70. Problem solved.

Thirdly, Nissan is right to refuse a warranty claim on your timing chain cover - you need to threaten the garage that did the work with a simple Small Claims Court proceeding....costs about £25, can be done online and doesn't involve you in any other expense...e.g. they can't do you for solicitors fees if you lost. Just make sure that you have the technical report that says how the damage occurred. But this assumes YOU had the work done...if you bought s/h and someone else had that timing chain done, then you've had it I'm afraid, especially if you bought privately.
