ok all shields off and manifold, turbo and waste gate nipped up a touch on all nuts/bolts

noise which sounds like when you get a drill bit squealing etc is deff from the area off pot 4 exhaust manifold or rear of wastegate come front pipe gasket area, as i did not undo the three bolt front pipe flange i'm ruling that out at the moment, looks like the front pipe and rear of wastegate will have to come off again, all three front pipe bolts are well rusted and may have to be drilled out,

i did not replace the wastegate gasket as it was a metal compression type and i just smeared some firegum on it both sides, unless the gum has gaps which may be allowing air to leak past?

any more ideas welcome,

p.s i have opened the water and oil banjos and both leak water and oil etc so lubrication to turbo is present.

thanks rob

i have removed the rear part of the wastegate chamber that connects to the front downpipe, there is a small dent in the gasket and this may be allowing pressure past,

i have run the engine with the unit off etc and can hear the turbo whistling smoothly and winds down smoothly as well, also the problem noise is not present when the cover is removed, i have cleaned al the traces of firegum off unit and wastegate face, and will dry fit the new gasket when i get it from nissan, this is how it was fitted originally.

when many members ask about turbo whistle or lack of it, even with this wastegate unit off, you can not hear the turbo very loudly anyway, so hence why you can't hear it.

will update when new gasket is fitted and checked, ther was no evidence of leakage from the three bolt down pipe gasket and decided to leave ituntill it needs a new downpipe,

thanks rob

anyone able to look up the nissan part number for the wastegate 5 bolt hole gasket i need please?

thanks rob

£19.94 for the gasket and should be overnight into my local delaer,

so hopefully be able to report back once fitted tomorrow night,

It might be worth giving the flanges a rub down with some med wet/dry wrapped around a flat block of wood to clean the up

had a oil leak from the oil return pipe on vac pump on rear of alternator for a while, nissan wanted £38+vat for a 7" piece of pipe, went to local factors and got same for £2.40 with new jubilee clips,

not much diff is there?.

new gasket just fitted and still the same, think i have found the problem:

waste gate vac pump not working, it was when i refitted the head because i saw it operating, if i rev the engine and open the wastegate rod etc with a spanner, the noise dissapears, so has anyone got a spare vac pump i can try or buy please,

thanks rob 07886453230

sorry all for the delay on reporting back,

all fixed and 100% on the road,

many thanks to Biffa for the spare wastegate vac pump he sent me, deff a few beers and lunch when we meet up mate,

apart from a slight leak on the front pipe to middle box joint and all the tubo heat shields refiitting, nothing else to to,

so all well that ends well !

thanks all once again for your help.
