oh my god can anything else go wrong :(

sent me a td25 head not a td27 arggghhhhhhh! anyway noticed the injector seat fixings were not fitted so rang bob up and he said sorry and posted them up, started to grind valve in last night with problems, my valves looked not to be seating on the new head valve seats, after nearly three hours of grinding and head scratching, i rang bob at 22.30 on his mobile and left a voicemail, he rang me straight back and said from what i told him, it appears they have sent me the td25 head not the td27 as the td25 has slightly smaller valves,
so now i'm sat in waiting for his mate to come up to me from london on his way to manchester to swap the heads,

honestly i could write a book on my bad luck :(

At least they accept the fault is theirs and are doing something about it.
Better than returning the item at your cost and waiting yet again.
I would consider that "Good customer Service" pity they didn't know what they were selling though.. :(
Is the head gasket set the right one? 8O
I do hope you can get back on the road again soon,
best of luck, we are all thinking of you.

yes gasket set looks fine, not bad quality either, you get all rubbers for bolting rockerbox down, rocket box gasket, new inlet gasket, metal exhaust gaskets, head gasket, thermostat gasket, both thermotstat body gaskets being 1 x rubber 1 x paper, top inlet gasket, new valve seals, and other rubber gaskets i can't work out where they are from yet but all rubber, not bad for £30 for the gasket set off same seller so total price was £280

seller just phoned and his mate should be here by 15.30 ish even gave me his mate mobile to chase him up if needed,

the reason for the mix up he said was that the heads come in from japan and have been packed in wrong box, he has checked the head coming up and has put the injector seats in ready,
so must say i'm very impressed with the service upto now.

ouch just checked my old head gasket against my new one and great they match, but looking closer at the old one, it has approx 3 cracks on each pot on the gasket, so it was about to go anyway,

hopefully all goes well and this improves the power i have been slowly losing over the last 18 months, the valves were in need of regrinding so that may explain a lot of power loss and fuel economy drop,

How many miles has the old girl done then?
Many years ago you had to de-coke vehicles every couple of years, regrind the valves etc, something that is rarely done nowadays, better fuel, better oils etc I guess.

nearly 60,000 miles to the best of my knowledge, had the original import KM's clocks converted to miles on the uk clocks i had fitted,

got all the valves ground in now, and all fitted except three due to damagng the valve guide seals tapping the new seals on, so have to wait for head supplier to post me some replacement ones up, texted him today and he texted me back to say will post them monday, injectors been soaking in parafin for 48hrs and now refitted along with all four glow plugs, just need to nip them all up, so work stops yet again lol

the valves were very much need of re grinding and pretty suire they were the main cause of power loss,

just a note to all regarding the injectors,

local cannock diesel specialist quoted me approx £100 -£120 to recon my injectors but would check them for free,

local diesel specialist quoted me £12.50 each injector fully reconned so quite some difference in the two!!!!! moral is shop around.

£12.50 thats cheap even skinflint like me would buy a set for rebuild like yours!

Glad your well in to rebuilding your Mistral Shark1e, got to be worth it in the long run,

As far as the varying prices regarding recon injectors.
The dearer of the two quotes you had may be going to replace the nozzles; holders and needles were as the cheaper would only regrind them. I have found in the past that regrinding some injectors particularly injectors with 2 angle on the needles, such as some bosch injectors, does not always pay and is not always the best way forward, wile they will work ok they will not provide maximum power.
Saying this I am not familiar with your type of injector and can’t suggest the need for replacement parts.

yaaaaahooooo she's alive and kicking once again lol

thanks to all who helped including hodgy for coming down to help rebuild but due to head turning up late not a lot was managed, thanks mate

thanks to biffa for sending me some manifold bolts today in the post so i could finish the job, great bloke.

she cracked up first time and runs sweet, off for another test drive later to check the old gal again.

:)

Glad to hear your back on the road again, would never be the same without you.

glad to here it is back on the road keep the old gal going does she seem a bit more pokey so r all the parts still for sale lol

thanks guys but now have another problem, there is a high pitched noise from the turbo area when under load, not there when idling or foot off the gas etc,

sounds like either high pressure loss from turbo or the turbo has dry bearings etc, anyone throw any light on this? do you have to bleed the turbo oil line? seems strange it only happened once i refitted all the heat sheilds on the manifold/turbo ?

thanks rob

Well-done shark1e for getting her up and running again :p .

No you do not have to bleed the turbo oil pipes.

Sounds like you have an air leak on the inlet or more probably the exhaust side of the turbo.

deff more on exhaust i would say as the sound is as if the pressure has built up and leaking,

in the morn i will remove all heat sheilds and check for leaks.

on my mav it started to whistle as soon as i had new exaust put on i put it down to turbo having free passage for exaust gas down new shiny exaust dont forget your motor now all nice new top end better compression you may have bit more oommphh no carbon build up to slow anything down!
