OK this opens up a whole new meaning in the game, had the kit for a while but decided to fit it today prior to fitting my new pump head so that I had some figures to relate to at a later date, so early days but giving it a short high load run got 790 C at 4k revs foot to the floor, now this is far too much, I have suspicions that timing is out but going to need to do lots of adjustments in order to find out what is going on.

When I fitted the head that I have now initially it was as delivered without the annular groove and was far too advanced such that although it ran it had no power and overheated very quickly, even retarding one whole tooth on the cam belt did not resolve the issue.

After cutting the groove and then having a machine shop finish it for me but mullering the plunger, this is the set up I am currently running, the important aspect is it starts hot or cold just fine and performance is not bad but EGT is too high, so lots of adjustments coming to see exactly where we are going the main ones are timing and fuel, I will start with the easy one first and back off the fuel whilst keeping performance as is and see what that does to EGT, never too old to learn Rick

OK so backed off fuel screw by two half turns so far and not much difference in temp or performance, so another half turn tomorrow and see, Rick

I reckoned on 650 as a good safe EGT on the Pearl. If it started tickling 700 I'd back off 🙂

Agreed just trying to get to that sort of number now, thinking at this stage timing is too far retarded, so experimental time, Rick

Advanced the pump today on the pump slots, engine now has a bit of diesel rattle and the EGT at full chat hit 751 still a bit high but much better than before, still giving some black from the exhaust so will do another 1/4 turn on the fuel screw tomorrow, it starts on the button hot or cold so I am now wondering if I have anything to gain by fitting the new head, Rick
