What he means is cos the new cam profile "may" need a timing adjustment (via offset dowel or wood-ruff key) that the boost is going in the inlet valve and lots lost out the exhaust valve, a timing adjustment may help, Rick

But other things can also be playing up, I guess you have a boost diaphragm on the pump? is it in good order? indeed have you connected it to the inlet manifold? as the fly by wire pump would not have had such a pipe connection,Rick

Thanks Rick, I'm not sure of the diaphram condition but I have connected it to the turbo boost. Waste gate not set yet either but I've got a day on the truck tomorrow :)

Although you have not "set" the waste gate as long as it is somewhere near the mark it would not loose all boost, unless it is jammed open, check the diaphragm cos otherwise the pump will be dead flat seeing no boost if it is split, Rick

I wish I'd thought of that when it was all so easy to get at lol :doh
I'll have a spy tomorrow mate :bow

To test the pump diaphragm you only need a 10ml syringe, you should be able to feel the pressure, hold it at pressure and see if it dies off, sorry not the best of descriptions but you get the gist of it, Rick

As for the waste gate, push it open then let it snap shut, if it ends up in a different position then could indicate something was jammed in it, you could also try it with the engine running fast as on opening the exhaust gasses may just shift an obstruction, but of course may not, best I can come up with at the mo, Rick

Spent the day mainly preparing for MOT and finishing off loads of odd jobs and loose ends. So many individual projects coming to a conclusion is great :thumbs
Waste gate checks out fine. I did up the boost while I was there.
Checked out the pump and that too seems fine. upped the fuel a bit while I was there too.
After loads of service work like brakes and mechanicals, I eventually took her out for another test .
Boost at about 7-8 psi at mo, fuelling obviously improved with just a little smoke now evident.
On boost it feels really good , pulls like a train.
BUT below boost it's very flat.
Is this indicative of cam timing or more that the power band is now higher up the rev range ?

Boost is low, if you are getting smoke then fuel is OK, think you are loosing boost low down due to cam timing/profile, Luke should be able to confirm this, Rick

When you said you upped the boost while you were there, I guess you just upped the spring pressure, which actually does nowt if the boost is not there in the first place, Rick

Yes shortened actuator to delay waste gate opening. I'll change it back again and monitor boost gauge, but driving was a marked improvement.
Every day is a school day as they say :D

Not quite with you there, if you shorten the waste gate this reduces the pressure the gate opens, but whatever normal gate pressure is around 15 psi I think so at 8 that you have the gate has no bearing on the situation, Rick

I don't know how else to explain it Rick but it's worked as we're now on 1 bar
Wheel spinning in 1st and 2nd already :D
Black Pearl, passed MOT today, got a warning though  Satellite delay on handbrake :lol but it holds enough.
Next I shall be turning the boost up some more and the LPG will be armed
There may be pics :naughty

I suspect some debris build up on the waste gate flap that has cleared itself, well done anyway, you should bring it to Salisbury for us all to see, Rick
