thats precisely what I thought, the reason why i dont think its diesel bug is because it doesnt change on a low tank of fuel, I would have thoguht if it was diesel bug the almost empty portion of the fuel tank would make it run even worse, but it doesnt seem to degrade, its only the occasional stall at idle or when cold while running and the slight hesitation while accelerating from dead stop that has me wandering, IM running an injector/fuel treatment to see if this helps for the moment, since cleaning the pickup i havnt had it stall but that was only a once a while thing

When you removed the pickup pipes did you fully remove the swirl chamber? (white pot) from the pipes, don't lose the spring, I had a leaf stuck in there :doh
Also worth checking down at the front in the Banjo bolt on the IP for that dreaded mini filter
May be different on yours as some were fitted with one in the bolt and some are fitted in the actual recess it screws into below and needs to be fished out, I found the metal from a windscreen wiper bent at the bottom with a little hook works well

Yeah I disconnected that little plastic tub thing that sits at the end of the pickup, that looked black/sooty untill i have it a good wash, I pulled if off and sprayed the hoses back and fourth and the pickup tubing and the tub thing to ensure it wasnt blocked, and already removed the mini filter, I have a pick set that i used to fish it out with
So Tonight I jumped in my truck, warmed the glow plugs and flicked her over, and.. she pops into life coughs and stops, so i try again and again and again, no joy just coughs a few times then dies, jumped out the truck and looked over the engine bay and decided to see if i could prime the fuel system and found that i needed to pump it around 8 times before i felt some pressure around 4 more pumps later its nice and hard jump in the truck again and she fires up fine, so.. this leads me to believe there is some form of fuel leak somewhere....

most likely the metal fuel pipes towards the rear, pinhole could be small enough to let air in but not leak fuel, easy enough to just replace them both in plastic, unless your rules are different in NZ in which case you would probably have to use fuel grade rubber, Rick
I think i may have found it already, rubber fuel lines from the rear of the pump are a bit wet, looks like the line that returns to the tank?? but ill replace both from the metal lines to the injection pump

the pipe from the pump to the tank will not be the one giving you trouble as it is "after the pump", Rick
Oh ok, I havnt touched it yet, so ill havve more of a look first, though when tracing the line from the tank to the filter everything loosk fine that side, no rust, solid line, im really hoping that the injection pump isnt bad

100% fuel blockage
It's either going to be;
Mini Filter in Banjo
Duff fuel filter/primer head
Blocked swirl chamber/pickup pipes
I've found fuel lines rarely tend to be the issue on these, pin hole or not, a hole is a hole and when stationary i'd expect a small patch of wet around the affected area
