Hello
We have recently bought our Maverick and were over the moon as to what we got, good looking and low mileage car :) I had been thinking whats the catch, well I think I have now found it. I hope it's not too bad.

The engine management light comes on then goes off. I had a look in the Owner's Handbook (because I was stuck) and it says
"engine management (petrol engine only)" Illumination whilst the engine is running may indicate a fault in the engine management.
Also
Immobilisation system
if the indicator light flashes when the ignition is switched on, (which it doesn't) the immobilisation system will not be activated. Have the malfunction repaired by a Ford Dealer

Right can anyone help me its a Diesel why should the engine management light come on, the engine does stutter a little when the light comes on.
Is it something as simple as the car needs an oil change ( I hope)
I know a little about petrol cars but nothing about diesel so please be gentle .... Thanks in advance Nev

engine malfunction light

it could be water in the fuel filter trap if its intermittant.if you stand at front of motor the deisel filter is on the right at the back of the inner wing.if you look underneath the filter there is a small tap with a pipe coming off it open the tap to drain the water.try that and see how you go.
when the light does come on it could be any number of things.if you go to the downloads section of this site there is a workshop download that shows you how to read the fault codes on a 2.7tdi.you dont need any special tools and it will point you in the right direction if any fault codes have been recorded on the cars ecm.

engine malfunction light

Thanks
I will have a look tonight and let you know.

Dont want to hijack this thread but on the subject of fault codes, for about £20 off flea bay you can get either an interface box for your laptop or a code reader.

Anyone any experience of any of either and are they worth it? just thinking about using it on different vehicles.

engine malfunction light

The engine management light comes on then goes off.
if it only does this when you start the engine then this is the normal self check of the ecm.it should come on when you first start the engine then stay on for a few seconds then go out.
if its coming on after that and staying on then a fault has been detected by the ecm.

It comes on and off as you drive, when it is on there is a slight power loss, that you wouldnt notice if the light wasnt on.javascript:emoticon(':?')

I didnt have chance to check out the fuel filter trap last night , so I will do it tonight.

I undid the small tap to drain the water off but there was none in. :-(
The light still comes on.

However I have notice that it only comes on when the engine is warm. :?

I will now go to the downloads section to read the fault codes, so I will look at this at the weekend in the daylight.

If anyone has got any other ideas or have come across this fault before please let me know........... Thanks

After reading the above link , the upshot is to do a service on the Maverick.''

I was driving down the road at the weekend the light came on and the engine cut out, '8O' I waited about 10 seconds and restarted it. It started first time and the light had gone off. The light doesn't come on at often now.':?'.

I have not don the light thing yet, I will do as soon as I can.

service

thats what i started with but in my case it turned out to be something more than that which was needed. :(

What was it in the end :?:

Just so I know what to look forward too

what was it?

i,m afraid it was the injector pump which was on its way out on mine.couldnt get hold of a second hand one and nissan wanted a small fortune for a new one.i broke the motor for spares in the end as i got fed up with shelling out cash and getting no where :(

I've been trying to sell an injector pump for a while as well.

injector pump

mine was the zexel one.everywhere i tried only had the bosch ones.bit late now i'm afraid as theres not much left of the motor now.

Finally got round to doing the trouble shoot code on the MIL light got the code
47 crankshaft position (CKP)sensor-incorrect signal probable cause wiring open/short circuit, ckp sensor.

Would my next move be to remove the sensor clean it and re-fit, if so can you point me in the right direction to finding it?

a few people get this but they never get back to say how they fixed it

so i dont know.

i suppose check the wiring and clean connections etc would be a good start...

if im ever stuck, i pm toolbox... he's never let me down yet...

knows everything

sensor

i think it is at the back of the engine on the left hand side(standing at front of truck)near the gearbox.

forbefor,

It should be located as in the picture below, but there has been instances on early models where it has been in the timing cover. Worth removing and cleaning to start with.

Have a look in the workshop manual
http://bebrs.pie-dabas.net/Webs/Terrano/R20/ec.pdf
You will need page 385 onwards, should help you with testing the wiring.

out

Managed to find the sensor, it was at the front, fastened in by one bolt. I unplugged the cable and unscrewed the bolt to remove it. It was covered in oil but had no marks on it. We went to all the local motor car stockiest to find a replacement but none of them had one.:nenau Nissan were as helpfully as a chocolate fire guard. :doh
Ford who were very helpful wanted £150.

Does anyone have any contacts or know anywhere that they can recommend, mail order etc ?:bow:clap
