Running a little better but still gutless after trying injector cleaner,
I'm going to try and take the wire off the number 1 injector to see if that does anything before I commit to by a new one or get them cleaned.
Is it ok to take the wire off all will it have a hissy fit?

which maf have u got bosch or hitich
 
I'm not sure which maf I have I will have a look and let you know.
How do I go about with the paper clip method ?
It is ok pulling off but it feels as if it is struggling to get to 3000rpm and above.

paper clip methord is in the download section have u tryed the mini filter
 
I'll have a look there and no I haven't where would I find it?
I'm not that into computers where would I find the download section as I have had a look on the site and can't see any
 
the mini filter is in the banjo bolt on the inlet to pump check download section it has a step by step including photos

With my random button pushing I found the download section. :)

u will have a white 16 pin socket when u look at the socket it will look something like this
\_________/ its the pins i think at the wides point pin 1 and 8 need to be connected

\9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16/
hope that stays in shap and makes sense:thumbs
 
to clarify, if you look at the connector block it has a square end and a chamfered end, with the chamfered end to the right short the two extreme left bottom row pins for two seconds, then count the pulses on the engine management light, Rick
 
I was out playing last night and not sure if it is related but the water on the roads were pretty deep and the engine light came on I noticed I had a loss of power. Today jumped into the Terrano and the engine seamed fine and pulled well and no engine light, about half an hours drive the light came on I lost power and wouldn't go off. Any ideas?

On my way home from buying my Terrano 2.7TDI, the exact fault you described happened to me -It was absolutely pi$$ing down - I thought " what the hell have I bought here"!! - it nearly stopped altogether!!

I have not had the fault since ( 3 years later ) and never found out what the problem was ??? :nenau

For what its worth, had a problem a bit like that for about 12 months and it would happen intermittently, mostly when weather was around freezing and I was going up a hill. Would lose power but once I pulled over, turned off the ignition and turned it back on again all went well until it happened again at a later date. Only after I gave a really thorough cleaning to the bottom plug cap of the fuel filter did the problem dissappear totally. There was small deposits of brown scum in the holes and spaces of the bottom cap that must have been freezing and blocking up something.
 
I have cleaned the mini filter and same same.
I had a look at the plug in for the diagnostic machine and nothing marry up to anything in the download section or anyone's suggestions I'm afraid. The plug shape is different to all . It is angled on both sides.
Here is my diag plug, I notice not all of the holes have electrical connectors.

I had a look at the plug in for the diagnostic machine and nothing marry up to anything in the download section or anyone's suggestions I'm afraid. The plug shape is different to all . It is angled on both sides.

that is not your diagnostic socket, it is located under the fuse box drivers side and has 14 connecting sockets, the one shown only has 8, Rick
 
The pictured socket is the only one under the fusebox (2001 Ter) and the Snapon machine seams to work in it.
As you should be able to see that not all of the connectors in the socket have connectors in them .
1, , ,4,5, , , ,
9,10,11,13,14, , , The numbered connectors are the ones that are in the socket and all the rest are blanks.

Anyway I tried the paper clip theory and couldn't get it to do anything.
I took the injectors out and had them cleaned and number one (electronic one ) was tested and was within the tolerances but the guy said I could do with replacing it soon.
Refitted injectors and the Snapon machine came up with crank sensor and Needle lift sensor again, it was then cleared and engine light went off.
Brilliant I thought !! Took it for a test drive and it went like a scolded cat but then after a 5 minute run while giving it a good bootfull it got to about 3000rpm spluttered then the engine light came back on and now it is gutless again.

thats the new diagnostic socket found in terranos 1999 0n wards it has 16 pins the pins r the small square holes not the big 8 square holes:thumbs

so in the pick of the plug what pins did u use the paper clip in

I reckon it is your crank sensor, this is composed of a coil of very fine wire around a permanent magnet, then potted (enclosed in a liquid plastic that solidifies) problem is over time the fine wire breaks due to thermal expansion on heating and contraction on cooling and no way to get into it to repair it, so often it works till it gets hot, then stops, Rick
 
I have same plug as you mate, the paper clip thing won't work on these later ones

I took mine to a guy with proper consult diagnostics, do this other Wise your pissing in the wind

Have u replaced the maf yet ?
