Engine cutting out

Anybody else experienced this problem?

when the cars sittint still and revved up, once the throttle is let off the engine will cut out and the MIL comes on then will restart and after a minute or so the light goes and the car runs again

thats how mine started to act up before the injector pump died.
it would run fine then stall and wouldn't run for a while then it would fire up and run for days before it happened again.
could just be a sensor on its way out or a bit of dodgey wiring.
took ages for me to get to the root of my problem as the fault was intermittant and i kept getting different fault codes.

Has it been serviced recently? could be a poor seal between fuel filter and housing causing air to leak in perhaps. Has it got any smoke from the exhaust?

yeah smokes intermitant when revved but when it does smoke it smokes quite bad.

I'm no mechanic but I'd be looking out for fuel weaping out of joints or pipes as it could be a sign of air getting into the fuel system. There are some small rubber pipes around the injector pipes that perish, I've known these cause problems for some people.

sounds sensible and a dead good place to start looking ill get on it

can you do afew pics, to show us where you mean, i dont have that trouble, but always worth know where to look if things start to go replace them before the trouble gets started.

Hi Zipps, no pics but look at the injectors a bit diffult I know with the intercooler in the way. Nissan called them Leak Off Hoses, if I remember correctly they link each injector and has a blank off hose on the last one. I'm guessing now but excess fuel will be returned to the fuel system.

If it had an air leak in the diesel system the fault would be constant and not intermitant like you describe. It would be worth serviving for the sake of a couple of filters. :thumb2
