Electric window switch duff

Having real problems with the electric window switch on my Mav. The window goes up every time, but quite often refuses to go down. I've a feeling it's probably the switch at fault. How is it attached to the door card? If I can, I'll try and clean up the contacts, though this is less and less of an option with more modern switchgear...

it's held to the door card by 3 screws, there's also a multipin connector on the switch:thumb2 easy to change,

So do I need to get the door card off? I've tried that already to cure a broken speaker but didn't get very far. I think Mr Stalone must have spent some time working in a Spanish 4x4 factory!

yes easy job 10 mm or cross head screw bottom of inside door handle, prize out surround on interior door lock lever think there is one screw under plastic cover top front of card then start bottom rear of card and pull off all round from clips lift and off, the window switch is stripable but you may find it is the relay bolted to the door also stripable to clean the contacts, oh you may find that the clips that holds the switch together one may be broken superglue for this, Rick

Yeah, piss easy IF the screws come out! Which they really didn't want to last time. Could do with the rain stopping now too...

i had the same problem except mine would only work in the rain!! took door card off & sprayed wd40 into connector works now

There's only one screw, that's the one holding the door handle, as Solarman said "10mm socket or cross-head screwdriver".
Most of the retaining clips WILL break but they are cheaply available on eBay (I put a smear of grease on the holes before I refit the door card, makes it easier to get off next time).

Resistance against doorcard, window runners need lubbed or motor is tired

Yeah, piss easy IF the screws come out! Which they really didn't want to last time. Could do with the rain stopping now too...

If it's the one in the handle that's causing the problem, I found that if you pull on the door handle whilst unscrewing, that usually helps, in means the screw hole is worn :doh

Agreed on a fiver, delivered. Cheaper than buying new ones!

Anyway, here's how the fix went. First of all, used a small 10mm socket to get that tricky armrest bolt out. Then gingerly pulled the card off. No clips broke!

Then you need to disconnect this wire, which is tricky as you have to hold the door card at the same time.

Three small bolts on the back of the card allow you to remove the switch. Here it is with the surround taken off (it just clips on).

I then used a small screwdriver to prise the switch apart.

Which reveals this.

The two contact strips were both dirty and worn. I cleaned them up and turned them around, so the little lever in the switch is acting on a slightly different place.

Then it was just reassembly, stopping to put some silicon spray on the window runners. Job done! It only seems to play up when it's damp though. I'm sure it won't be long before I can test that...
