hi guys. right well after nearly killing my mav by taking in water i have ordered a snorkel which i am comfortable fitting but the main question is. is the ecu under the drivers seat on an L reg mav and if so im thinking of moving it. any ideas as to where to move it higher in the car and what to do wiring wise, or is there anything els i can do to stop it getting destroyed when im going to take her swimming? many thanks :)

You should be fine mate, as long as your windows are up and your door seals are intact you should have no worries I've been through Fords up to my windscreen and had no issues

Personally on a car of that age, would want to do as little with the wires as possible.

If it was me, I would be finding a Tupperware tub it fits into and sealing it into that, but keeping it in the same place.

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

yeah i think i might do somthing like that, ive also heard somthing about covering them with vasaline, sounds weird i knowbut apparently its meant to work :nenau

Might work, but you would have to do it regularly, as the heat from the heater would melt it, and cause it to run off after a while. Also it would not withstand any pressure, so if you hit a bump, and splashed the water around, it would probably wash straight through. Just think of a watch, even a lot of "Waterproof" ones are OK if they get wet, but not ok to swim in, as the extra pressure created by moving your arms in the water bursts the seals.

I didn't know L reg had ECU on them ? Are you sure you're not looking at the power amp under the driver's seat ?
ECU should be behind the ashtray area of the dash board on early TDi and then n/s footwell on later ones I think.

its an l reg 2.4 petrol. umm i assume its the ecu but not 100% sure, was hoping someone on here would know for defiante.

Ecu on the 2.4 is behind the heater panel the thing under the seat is the radio amp

What about breather pipes for axle or gearbox? could they do with extending?

Front breathers are at bulkhead level to start with and terminate pointing down. So fine for all who can drive through water while sitting in their seat :thumbs
