Can anyone advise what thickness Dyneema rope to get?

I'm gonna get 30m as is my steel.

My steel has taken some damage from being wound in wrong it seems :doh

plenty on Ebay, expect to pay £125 for it, cheaper from china but you have to pay duty, Rick

Thanks rick, there seems to be different thickness of it?

Also does it just attach to the drum as "per normal" :nenau

10mm minimum. Bigger equals stronger up to about 13mm I think. Attaches to drum the same but don't let it all the way out.
Clean it after use. Don't let it rub on the ground or rocks etc

Thanks Pete, Rick taught me all this, just never realised it was different mm thickness.

Anyone see any good deals going? I'd jump at 125 quid at the moment

I know a guy that works for rotrex winches who is pricing me up 50 metres of 12 mm dyneema.
I will give him a nudge as he hasn't got back to me with the price yet :thumb2

12mm :sly tastey. Remember though that 50m and 12mm may fill your drum too much !

Last silly question, can I buy a bigger hook and can you change the hooks on the rope? Looks like they're non changeable?

Will that really be the total price I wonder (from Poland)

you can put whatever you like on it, I have a shackle on my front winch instead of a hook simply because the straps I have are far bigger than normal and it enables me to connect to them with ease, Rick

Surely as Poland is in the EU, as long as you pay their local tax, there is no duty?

Ahh it's not just me then,

I had one hell of a job trying to get those straps in the hook.

I might message the seller, if Elty can contact this dude poss for a double purchase that'd be great, I will need to be sharpish about it though, don't like having a damaged cable :D

I will nip and see him Monday when I am at work as his place backs onto ours:thumb2

On the subject of changing from steel to synthetic, don't forget that the roller fairlead that normally gets fitted to a steel winch will snag and break a synthetic rope. You must use a smooth, fixed fairlead.

AND I'm still concerned 50m of 12mm will fit the drum :nenau

Alex you will not get 50 Mtrs on your drum, and even if it were possible on a short pull you would lose so much power due to the diameter, and as Ian says you must use a fixed smooth fairlead, Rick
