I am told, although it dont effect me that the new photo driving licence has to be replaced at a cost of £17 after 10 years, they do not last until you are
70 years old like the old paper one. If you changed your licence because you fancied a photo one then the government have caught you out to collect more money from you. You may be driving with an out of date licence.

Tis true - but if you move house etc and have to change details you can do it for free. So "move house" to a close family members once evey 9 years to avoid the charge.

Yip this is true as we got a memo round the work the other day to check!!

didnt the old paper ones become invalid a few years back now? I think there may have been a date by which you had to change? I'm probably wrong though!

I cnahged mine when i moved here so i'll be OK for while yet as it was only? let me think..................... oh thats it 9 years ago :?

Time to move house again plank, although it'll be cheaper to renew your licence!!

To be honest I dont even know where my licence is, i will have to ask 'she who knows best' as its probably some where "safe" :?

licence

I still got the paper one to!
so aint it legal then? -wor-

well i didn;t think it was, but i dont know for sure maybe some one else does?

The paper one expires on your 70th birthday, well the day before....... if you have been lucky enough to live this long then the government gives you a photo one free of charge! there is a catch with this (isnt there always?) the catch is that you have to renew it every three years AND you lose the pre 1997 ability to drive over 3500kg........ unless you get a medical certificate from your doctor which can cost around £80, or so I am told.......regards bri

I've still got the old paper one.... I forgot to pack mine this year on one of the trips. We got a pull from the Guarda Civil (or Bastardo's as I now call them) 200 miles South of Madrid and got a £250 (315 Euro) on the spot fine for not having it with me

It was only luck that Lucy always carried her new type license with her... they wouldn't let me back in the driving seat.

Have to replace my photo one every 5 years for my PSV.
Good job our works pays for my medical & replacement license..
