Dreaded 'limp mode'

Hi Guys,

Sorry not contributing a lot, I am busy trying to learn new things, and my head in 'book's digital and real.

Also very busy with the Response team delivering prescriptions around South Wales for the last few weeks...

That is when my own crisis hit.....car running very normally thank you...EML comes on, as it seems to randomly....BUT...this time it doesn't vanish, just as randomly, and no power up, sluggish as a lettuce filled slug, 0-3 in about 5 minutes.

As yet no information, but I am attempting to take it to my engineer in the morning, where he will connect it to his diagnostics and read the fault codes......

There t'is, the tractor has at last thrown a serious wobbly at me after all this time of steady reliable service.....

We will find out tomorrow.....

I may be reduced to driving Swmbos Fabia....

Have you tried running with the MAF unplugged?

Nah mate, as banshee said unplug the maf and see what it's like, it's probably that

Also worth changing the fuel filter, you could of picked up some dirty fuel as I did, and read the fault codes, Rick

Okay guys, thank you for your input.
Disconnected MAF, no difference.
Fuel filter checked, okay.
Bosch engineer is convinced that pump/timing module is at fault. As I have no facilities, in lock down, and need the vehicle fixed as soon as is practicable, and working with meds delivery. It is in for repairs with a 12 mth warranty on them.
It is not a cheap fix, but I haven't got the funds for a newer vehicle. She may be 18 yrs old, but she's a good 'un and she needs to be kept going for a while yet...

If MAF disconnected and no difference, then it's the MAF.

What did the fault code say?

Sorry for the delay in replying.....fault is a seized adv/rtd piston in pump, causing internal solenoid to burn out.
Being rebuilt this week.
Back start nxt week.

I am surprised you have found someone to strip and rebuild a pump, not many of them left, care to post contact details, Rick

No worries about sharing at all.....

See below for details......and yes expensive repair, but to me worth it...the car is in very good alround condition, with no serious rust and a great engine.

I know she is 18 yrs old, and has 134k on the clock, but to replace her I'd have to be looking at £4-5k, which I don't want to have to afford...

So I've gone for this repair, with a 12mnth warranty.......and at the moment I need that vehicle back, and reliable for the insane response work our team are undertaking.....

We all have differing levels of acceptability....I dont have the knowledge or facilities, as you have, to maintain vehicles at a reasonable cost.

The car is worth the investment, and until I'm forced to spend much more cash on a newer vehicle, which may or may not be better than this one, I'll keep her going until I reach my limit.

But to add into the mix, as they had to disconnect the battery for some time, the car now locks itself.....without me touching the fob.....should I try re registering fob to car, although the fob does actually work....:nenau:nenau:nenau

I would try disconnecting the battery, (both leads) and holding the leads together for a min or so to discharge all the capacitors in the system, then reconnect and see how it goes, Rick
