Got my terrano stuck in the back garden today with the horse box on put it in 4 wheel drive was spinning front wheel as expected but was spinning the rear drivers and not edging forward. Now I thought the LSD if was spinning on one side it would put power to the other side to help it ie reduce spin on drivers side and put power to left side. Dif is def a LSD as got sticker on the dif what could be the problems and fixes thanks craig

Strange, I'm a noobie with this stuff but I thought the mechanics of it forced both rear wheels to spin as its a constant lock? :nenau

Can't have them fully locked or will have problems taking corners so have to allow some slip

it is what it says "limited slip" this means it will provide some drive to the stationary wheel but only a limited amount, and with an open front diff this means if you put both nearside wheels onto soft stuff then the rear offside is only giving a percentage of drive, often not enough, but if it was able to give more you would find it hard on tarmac to keep a straight line, it is not a locked diff by any means, Rick

Mine didn't transfer any drive at all to passenger rear wheel is there any way of testing the dif to see if it's ok

If the LSD is working ok you should have had drive going to both rear wheels:augie got the later axle on this one & think i've got an LSD but not sure:doh but my last T2 the LSD was OTT as rear wheels could screech like mad in car parks but off road it was ace was upto the hubs in mud on the N/S but the O/S was on tarmac & pulled back onto the road no probs in 2WD

Has the oil been changed recently? If not maybe worth a few quid to see if it makes any difference. Gives you another excuse to get it stuck too! ;-)

Just another thought too, could there be a faulty front hub? That situation happened to me when one of the brake rings were goosed.

What tyres do you have, what was the ground like and when was the LSD oil changed last ? Hitch weight ?
If you have a spinning back wheel you can often get the other side to drive if you grab an arm full of handbrake :thumbs

Another good point too but make sure you use proper LSD oil not gear oil with an additive.

What year is it the later axles arent as good as the older ones.On the early ones if you jack up one side its impossible to turn the wheel on later ones its quite easy

Tires are standard road not much over legal limit waiting for wages for 4 new tires as took my of road wheels of it last week to save wear on them. Weight of trailer was 760kg ground was soil no grass lol

Can't shift the wheel at all on mine when one side is lifted & i've got the later axle all I managed to do was undo the wheel nuts as I tried to turn the wheel with my breaker bar

Tyres , simples.
Change your LSD oil
And grab the handbrake :thumbs

yes simply jack up both rear wheels of the ground, try and turn one, you should not be able to, now try it with a 3ft bar, with a fair bit of effort you should be able to turn it, indicates LSD in good order this is why it is called "limited" slip, it is not a locked diff, Rick

With both wheels of the ground they will turn freely but in same direction
