After many hours of toil i can confirm that the td and tdi gearboxes are completly different.If you check the photo the only part in common is the transfer box.obviously this is completely useless information unless of course you were going to change your gearbox but i thought i would share it anyway:thumbs

from your photo the transfer box looks different too :nenau
 
Well done Fabs! If anyone needs to replace a 'box its very good info and could avoid mistakenly buying a 'bargain'. Just out of interest, in your shots, which is which?

So for reference purposes, is the oil covered box the Td version then?:nenau

It does in the pic i was measuring each part and the transfers were same length every other dimension was different.For reference the one covered in oil is the TD
 
Mmm just a thought maybe the internals are the same just a bit more stronger to cope with the extra bhp. I can't see them re designing the whole transmission system. The bell housing looks different but those are just bolt on
