Diesel Engine Addiction to Easy Start

I always carry a tin of this trusty stuff with me due to running dangerously low ratios of Diesel in my SVO/WVO at low temps

Whenever people see me using it or see the can in the car I always get the "your car will get addicted to that" talk

Is there any truth to this? I've read conflicting stories around this, some people say it damages the pintles in the injectors

Other say that because of the instant ignition the air temperature hasn't had time to warm up the cylinder causing the injectors to coke

What I want to know is, have any of you guys ever had a 2.7TDi lump have direct problems from using easy start?

On some of the old diesel engines i worked with(Old Cranes High raise Conveyors etc).In the winter.We had to resort to lighting newspaper and letting the warm smoke into the intake.Before they would start.(No glow plugs etc)The Conveyor was a barsted cos it was a hand crank to start it.But these were very old tired engines.

I would assume safe to use in correct doses, however i would also not out money on it. I sure do want to know the answer though :thumb2

I would not recommend using it daily. If i remember rightly did you fit new Lucas glow plugs? I fitted a set and they burnt out within a week!! Could not believe it! If your having real probs starting i would check them and make sure they are ok. These temps should not be causing starting probs even on veggie. Im running 100 % bio and its starts instant. Might be worth a check of the plugs.

I run 100% bio too and been down to -18 last winter. Veggie is a different too though to be fair. However it shouldn't be an issue in these temps. I'm with the bunny, check your glow sticks

Was just about to say its due to the fuel. Why not stick a couple quids worth of petrol station fuel in.

It was very cold where I was last night, almost freezing

Since I've fitted the new plugs it's been starting like a dream, last night was the first time I've had to use it, I will check them again though just to be sure, if they have worn out already I will certainly be going back

Have any of you known of the 2.7TD or TDi to have problems directly caused by easy start though?

I've heard a lot of people talk of starting fires under the engines :lol

My uncle had an old Ford A series truck from around the late 70's, early 80's, they were a larger version of the transit, well that thing would only start with about half a can of the stuff, then smoke like a pig for a few minutes, it did have a pleasant smell once started though

It can be bad for your health ie David brown tractor forgetting to unplug the one inline glow plug and blowing can out your hand. In the end we had to replace 2 pistons in it but can not say the easy start caused it as it was a pig from when we got it
