Reading a recent thread on a throttle problem (and not wanting to hijack it) i saw that a diagnostic software was being used on a laptop showing, voltages and other parameters.

I was wondering what the software is and is it available to us mortals or is a special garage only setup and also the connection to the laptop from the car connector.

ah yes that be mine!

£19 delivered for the NIssan Consult interface, and a laptop with a RS232 Serial port. Run ECUTalk (no need to install) and connect everything up, discovers on COM 1 if that is correct for your serial port, and away you go!

If your laptop doesnt have serial, then you just need a USB to Serial adapter...although I think you need specific type but someone else will know for sure.

Thanks i am looking at these almost as i type.

I will definately be getting this setup

Thanks again Chris.

Aye forgot about the usb to serial, don`t be tempted to buy a cheapo one, they have a habit of not working, mines in the truck at the moment but will post a link to it when i get the details off it. Unless you have some details clivvy?

I just got mine off ebay, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-Co...iagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2eb95f59eb

this one from this guy. VERY quick delivery, works perfect! I used ECU talk, which you can see on the video, but I am going to look at something else more advanced. I havent tried the software that came with the COnsult, so will check that later and feed back.

I might have a usb serial converter that should work and if so I will sell. I can test it on mine.

The software i got with mine was crap :(
shame really as ecu talk isn`t that versatile
If yours is any good let me know :)

I would add that the Nissan "conzult" only fits trucks upto circa 1999. I.e. Those pre-16pin OBDII socket.

After then you'll need to jumper pins or make your own adapter to go from 16 to 14 pins....

Is there a socket on the 1994 Maverick, if so where, & what is the best software & connector.

Have look to the left of the accelrater pedal/up behind the fuse box area, should be a grey 14 pin connector (if you have one)

Hi fez if u can check ur usb to serial cable and it works I will buy it off u how much do u want for it.

OK so Ive had a good look at the 16 pin connector (data link connector) under the fuse box it uses 8 of the terminals which appear to be a mixture of the the 3.0ltr and the 2.7ltr connections according to the "engine and emissions overall control system" circuit diagrams in the R20 manual, EC section pages 16 and 302.
My terrano is 52 reg so I'm still trying to figure out exactly what connection cable i would need, if anyone knows or already has done this with the same connector please could you let me know.

I highlighted this a while ago in post #2 here:

Shows the difference between the 14 & 16 pin connectors, just match up RX, TX, Clk, 12v, & Gnd.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to use a 16 pin obd2 connector via a elm327 to a laptop as long as the tx, rx and signal ground are confiquered correctly on the socket pins?

Rayf will have to confirm this, but as i understand it, Nissan never used the OBDII protocol on any terrano, even the 2007 ones(?), only consult, so no it wont work.....

This was half the reason why I abandoned the nissan ecu.

Timbo is quite correct, there is no OBD on DIESEL Terrano's even though the later models sport the 16pin JS1692 connector. If you look at the pic I posted earlier you will see that none of the pins required for EOBD/OBD are fitted!
The ELM chip will do nothing for you. (on a Diesel Terrano)

Just buy one of the Consult 14pin interface units and wire a 16 pin plug to it, you need only 4 wires!: RX, TX, +12v & Gnd.
Get a (free) copy of ECUtalk install on a laptop, preferably with an original serial interface and thats it.

Great i didnt get exactly what you meant earlier, little project for the next couple of days it is.

Thanks Chris.
