Thanks Blocky,

I have tried to find a forum that covers Terrano's, but found that some didn't. Thought I'd cough up and join as I'd like some info on a Terrano by next week when I have to say yes or no to buying it :D

You will find a complete manual in the quick links, also many workshop docs for fixing the main issues with thses trucks.Anything else you need to k ow just ask some of the folk on here have had these trucks for 15+ years

Oh and welcome
P.S at 500 notes bite his hand off

Thanks all...

The only thing I may tow is a small trailer, surely that will pull that :augie

If u want to tow forget the auto
Ah Zippy, ok the auto aint got the same towing capacity i grant you
But for my needs it's fine, if you need to tow big heavy stuff Paff,do check the differences

don't even if and rrr mate just buy it....

I have a small trailer, in order to 'see' it I have fixed a length of plumbing pipe to the rear just long enough to see each end in the wing mirrors when the trailer is directly behind.
Makes backing up a bit easier

Neat trick...

I just borrow big trailers! Simple

That my friend is rather dumb statement.

If that wear true. you shouldn't tow with a manual either.

just changing the dropper resistor so the transmission does not hesitate to change gears. this is why the Jatco transmission wear out and over heat. not from towing, but from the fact the change gears smoothly compared to other transmissions creating excess friction and wear on the bands in the transmission during the gear change proccess.

Also a lock up solenoid switch for the torque converter does wonders. like driving a manual.

You may have different laws in nz but here we have to tow within the law and for the auto it has much less towing capacity than the manual so zippys statement was correct if you want to tow then you need a manual

except the terrano does not have such a facility, it is simply a fluid torque converter no lock up clutch, Rick

Sounds like we all ought to go live in NZ, things seem easier across there :thumb2

Welcome to the forum:thumb2 off the top of my head i'm sure the tow limit for the auto is 1800kg but would need to check the manual to say a 100%:augie but even so you can get a lot of caravans under that weight if you were wanting one but if it's just for a trailer again you can get quite a large trailer within that weight

I will elaborate on the lockup solenoid in it's own thread. as for the towing capacity the auto has nothing to do with it.

IT's how much a vehicle can stop. not how much it can tow. and that calculation is based on a vehicles GVM....Is an auto terrano heavier then a manual....possibly.

But i'll tell you one thing. the manufacturers service manual does not distinguish between the two...
