D.I.Y window tinting, how hard can it be?

Thinking of having a go at tinting my rear windows, any advice on the pest type an source of tinting film, or tips on it's application.

The T2 is black so want something black looking to blend in, main concerns are UV an getting hot in the sun.

Richo is the man for detailed answers but basically clean the buggers till they're clean, really clean. T2 was easy though as all nice n flat, the back one though neds a hot air gun to help the film round the corners.

heat gun has to be 2000w unless you want to be there for a week lol

next tip is.

when you have made sure both inside and outside the windows are shiny clean you put the tint over the window on the outside with the peel off side of the tint facing you, this is so you can use the window as a template to cut the tint, make sure you wet the window all over than spray water over the tint and use the squeegee to get rid of al the air bubbles etc. when you have cut it to shape is when the fun begins but not to worry there are ways to stop the tint being from sticking to itself when blown by the wind, what is this secret you ask? well simple, very hot soapy water sprayed onto the sticky side of the tint, there are tons of videos on youtube that show you how to fit the tint but none tell you about the hot water trick, i found that one myself :lol best thing to do is watch a youtube vid and copy it but replace the water with hot soapy water it make the tint easier to work with and as said also stops it sticking to its self. good luckwith your mission and remember the pics or it aint true :lol

Does the film shrink with heat then to take out the wrinkles in the corners? :nenau

I suppose the real test will be trying it! If I use that 5% light stuff, will back seat passenger still be able to see out properly? :nenau

yea can see out no probs but peeps cant see in lol have to look a bit harder at night tho when reversing

I only use th side mirrors reversing as I usually drive a van, and MY T2 is often loaded to the roof right up to the back of my headrest :thumb2

What sort of price is reasonable to have this done on a LWB, ive tried to do something similar in the past on another car, never again.

all depends where you go really, as with everything different places charge different ammounts, average cost for a 4x4 is around £150
