guys, this has been developing over a few months now. I have a creaking sound. It happens when I am steering at low speed, such as manoeuvring onto my driveway. Its not the knock at full lock (I don't think?) as its a very loud creak....weird....

anyone got any ideas? I will do a video later today in the car park...!

Pop under and grease up the lock stops just to make sure....

i Some times get a creaking, but put it down to maybe the spring turning in the cup?

I did wonder that, sounds like its at the front though but I am getting my mate to video it this afternoon, he may spot where it is coming from...

Could be any number of things,CV joints springs to mind..

c.v joints / arb bushes / compression bushes / upper or lower ball joints / steering idler or track rods. but I would check arb bushes

its your arms, you're getting old :lol cod liver oil my boy :lol

I replaced mine last year. But i would investigate further, just to be sure.ie what sort of movement/play in the arm.No split rubber/leak.

cant see any splits, there's no play as far as I can tell, just creaking!

No update then? :nenau

Quite interested to find out what this might be :thumb2

yup, see above - its the steering relay rod. Seems to be creaking at the offside. I will do another video tomorrow to show, I cant afford to fix it yet but feel a bit better knowing what it is.

You'll need to undo the steering ball joint . then you'll see that the arm is probably flopping about as the internal bushes will have worn
Easy short term fix is to drill and tap for a grease nipple. then grease the begger ;)

do what now?

which is the steering ball joint? Is that the thing that is attached to the chassis?

Ah,sorry, no it's the joint on the steering idler arm :thumb2 Just to release the load on the arm. Then you'll be able to feel and see the slop . The idler has two nylon bushes in there and they wear down. There used to be grease nipples on the older models but for some reason Nissan decided to save 0.01 pence and leave them off newer ones :doh Probably to sell you some bushes :lol

Anyone got pics? My steering makes an occasional noise when turning.

ah yes I figured id have to remove that or something to release the arm - I think it looks doable on the drive?

Is it worth me just replacing the whole mechanism - relay rod, steering idler arm and other linkages?

I did mine on the drive Clive, and replaced the idler arm at the same time. But you can purchase the idler arm bush separate,So cheaper to fix.
