I'm starting to dislike this car like no other banger I've ever owned.
I took out the Crank Position Sensor, it was clean, but I gave it a good wipe over anyway, reconnected it, played about cleaning and reseating the two earth cables on the battery side of the engine.
Amazing result, no EMI lights, pulled at full power, no engine dying on me in traffic.
This lasted a week. Then came back with a vengeance. I couldn't drive any distance without the engine surging or running with reduced power (or stopping dead).
I put an earth lead from the connectors on the engine block to the battery. Miracle cure again. This lasted a few days, so I made up a heavy duty earth lead from an old welding earth cable. The old T2 ran like a dream... for three weeks. Now its intermittent.
I've been trying to get a new CPS for this car, but I can't get one new from any of the shops I know. Even breakers are saying that all they have is the one from the rear of the engine. Mine fits on the front. One I was offered has a rectangular connector, mine has a more rounded one.
Was advised that CNCFABS might be able to help, but I haven't been able to get in touch.
Slowly loosing the will to live.
