Hi again to cut a long story short I've got a leak, I've noticed that I've been using a little water since I've had it but the other day I put in about a pint to take it up to the max line on the expansion bottle and after using the car I had a wet patch under the car so I jumped under and could see coolant dripping through the metal bash plate but can't see where it's coming from but I did see a small drip of water on the power steering pump bracket ? Could it have flicked up from somewhere as the power steering pump is higher than most parts under the bonnet ?

Water pump.

My guess, dont always show up,

Not to bad to do. Got mine from ebay.

Forgot to say that it leaks a lot more when I fill the expansion bottle up, could that be something to do with the pressure ?? Thanks again

You need to trace the leak 1st, have a good look around the engine bay.

Have a look at the back of the fan as everyone has said the most common one these suffer with is the water pump.
Will start losing small amounts of water to start with but when they go they just dump the lot.
Been there twice now with different terranos

Do I need to change just the gasket and also how big a job is it do I need to remove the radiator etc thanks again for all your help

There's a download for the water pump :thumb2

Water in the centre just under the front of the car, not always lot's of water to begin with.

mine also needs addressing again:doh

not sure if its the water pump which I did or the gasket above it:nenau

Mine's leaking as well, will be doing it on my next day off, are the cheap ones on ebay ok or is it best to get a decent one?

my pump is fine (cheap ebay one) I am punishing my engine a lot and think its just a gasket I will pinch top bolts up before I go any further

It'll prob be the water pump & there not hard to do 30-45min job:thumbs

hahahahhahaha. even for an expert its a half day job.
to change water pump rad has to come off all belts.

someone on here said they changed there injector return pipes on a car park in half an hour too.
I had to remove battery and water coolant bottle and other bits to get access to the main return pipe from no 1 injector.
my advice is give yourself lots of time and expect it to take longer

Trust me at -1'c I can replace one in 30-40 mins:lol:lol:lol which i've had to do after the new one I got had a faulty viscus coupling:doh taking your time it shouldn't take more than 90mins if everything go's to plan

Just had a look on ebay and there seems to be 2 or 3 different water pumps any idea which one.

Pass thought all of the TDI ones were the same:confused: got my last one from my local car parts place & was about the same price as ebay at the time, TBH glad I got mine local as it went back a week later:doh
