Diagnostic

Well, the specialists have looked listened prodded poked, diagnosis - reverse clutch shot, going by the debris in the sump.
cure - total replacement of all wear parts and re-assembly, cost 1350 + vat.

Have tracked down the home address of the moonlighting dealership team, surprise surprise, they are out of the country and the addresses registered with companies house are bogus - I shall bide my time, one day they will be back, and pay they will.

and thats a cheap price too....after much hunting around i forked out £1500 to have my old 99-plate box rebuilt at 120k miles....
