Just to say that the cable in the first post is not now available.

Will this one do?

And this is the serial/USB lead I have found, is that OK for Windozzze 7?

The consult cable is the right one but not sure on the Serial cable, i'd hate to categorically say yes as i've not tested it and it could be a different chipset to mine

I'll keep you all posted with the 16 pin results, I'm going to be a little distracted tomorrow though trying to fix my underfuelling issue out

Finally got round to re-wiring the plug tonight and soldering the wires in position :thumb2

I'll be testing this out next week hopefully on one of James' motors and will report my findings, if all works correctly, I will be bulk ordering a lot of these cables in from Hong Kong and modding them to put up for sale on here

So whilst on Holiday I had my 16 pin cable on me that I had re-wired and to my horror the pin outs on the guys truck who let me test it on it were totally different :doh

It was an '04 LWB Terrano

Here's a pic of his port by the fusebox

Could anyone advise? Ray help lol

That connector is the same as my 02 vehicle, except it has pin 7 fitted.
This provides both Consult (pins 12&13) and "K-line" EOBD diagnostics.
It makes sense, insofar as from 04 onwards EOBD became compulsory on Diesel vehicles.

You can use either, although you will likely get more info from the Consult interface with EcuTalk.

Ah OK, but does my plug look like it's wired correctly? As per the instructions you sent me, it's good to get the trained eye to confirm

In post 82 the pic you show of a 16 pin (JS1692) connector looks as though the yellow wire is connected to pin 12 (TXD)
the blue wire to pin 13 (RXD)
the red wire to pin 8 (+12V)
the green wire (ground) to pin 5

That all appears correct, however the grey wire on pin 15, I assume it is the BRG clock, this is not needed on the later ECU's and is probably better left disconnected. In any event, it wont make any significant difference as pin 15 is not normally fitted on the vehicle.

These are the ONLY connections required:
a) Ground, Pin 5 on 16P --> pin 14 on 14P
b) 12V, Pin 8 on 16P --> pin 7 on 14P
c) RXD, Pin 13 on 16P --> pin 1 on 14P
d) TXD, Pin 12 on 16P --> pin 2 on 14P

Ray I tried the above and still not having much luck, ECUTalk still wouldn't detect at all so I've opted for one of these;

When it arrives, I'll plug my current 14 pin Consult into it and if the ECU is detected I'll rip it open and then mirror the cable config in the one that I've got and hopefully we'll be GO!!!!

I'll update again when it arrives :clap

I noticed that on ricks readings there is no "Target f/inj mm3" just ????
I Cent find this reading on mine ether any one know why this is?:confused:

Great thread,

found consults on ebay with usb to lappy and mini usb on consult.

any one experience of these sounds a better bet than finding
compatiable serial usbs.

all seem to be US/Far East/ Oz.

Not too sure how off the mark this is however I have a 2001 Terrano sport 2.7tdi. Can I take it from what people have been saying that this will be 16 pin? If that is the case would the blue tooth ECU readers on ebay and such work on my car??? Think the download programme or mobile phone app is called Torque or similar.

Take a picture of your connector :thumb2

Just use a paper clip as in the down loads but depending on which plug you have the contacts you bridge are different but hey it'll cost nothing

Ordered. Just a case of downloading that software and then it's good to go?

What happened with the readings thread ?:confused: I think only me, Rick and Ian's Terrano, have posted them ? :nenau
Wasn't the idea to get a data base together ?

Mine is 16 pin and Me and Ray are still struggling getting that working. I know Ray is quite busy at the moment with a new job he should hopefully be able to start helping me again when things quieten down, once we've sussed it out, I'm going to get some kits knocked up and I'll start flogging them to the 16 pin guys :)
